I had a break-in and the knacker stole the spare 'blue' key..the one that only does ignition not open the doors.

I've had the alarm - immobiliser re-coded by an independent specialist, keys re-programmed. No problem (for 1/4 of what Fiat wanted for the job).

Came back to the car today to find side window smashed. No other damage but the car won't start. None of the new keys work and code light flashes on all the time even when I put the red key in, I can't re-program new keys. I guess this is because due to re-programming the old red key is invalid.

Ireland is on bank hols today so closed. I reckon matey with the old key returned to try and nick it and the car is now completely immobilised.

Anybody got any knowledge of how to start the beast without the red key..??

Oh no! What a complete bugger!
As far as I knew the red key could continue to be used to reprogramme new keys but hopefully someone on here will know more.
Sorry your having such a bad time...

Solved the non-start problem. Battery was almost flat and this was triggering the various cut-outs..apparently if battery amps are low(not volts) then the code-reader shuts down and the car won't recognise any keys, red or otherwise. Car can still be cranked over but it won't start which I think is what happened. Swapped the battery for a charged one and its fine.

I have moved house..but I still have to work in the town. Tomorrow away to Fiat for a new drivers window. This is definately Barchetta month...road tax, service, new window and off to UK for a new roof.

man, you definately are having a bit of ad luck there... maybe a ppair of rottweilers (one at home, one in the car) might be a solution?

Completely B-less at the moment. Waved it away to an auto specialist in Dublin. The new alarm / immobiliser is a pain in the hole...sometimes it simply flips its tiny mind and puts the car in lock-down mode. Great when its parked in town...Last time it did it it set the tracker off as well..wonderful as it was locked in my garage at the time. Agent who fitted it has thrown up his hands and its now off a contact of mine who does extra special car installations (usually police vehicles) to sort it out.

Good side is I've been loaned a Mondeo ST220 which is interesting to drive. This one is a complete sleeper..no horrible colour or fancy wheels. It looks absolutely standard. Its destined for conversion to an unmarked police car in the near future. It won't win any corning competions, too heavy, but it don't half go in a straight line...Lot more power than the B, seats 4 and a boot you could camp in. I might just be converted.

Morning guys.

May trouble starting the car has come back.

It is definitly the key code as the light stays on and she won't start, then finally it goes off and she fires up no problem. It took about 10 attempts this morning. Now I know what is going on I don't even bother trying to turn the engine if the code light is still on as I know now it won't go!

I've been looking through the threads and I have a theory. It worked fine when in the garage and has been starting fine for that last 2 weeks. The problem began again yesterday. I'm wondering if it could be to do with something getting wet as we've had dry weather here until yesteday. I found this in a previous post:

"There is an unlisted 10amp fuse in the immobiliser circuit located with 5 others under the 3 screw plastic cover on the firewall. Sometimes the fuse blows or the holder gets wet and the code reader won't work."
Could this cause the code to be recognised intermitantly? Does anyone have more info on that or a picture of what I should be looking at? I guess if i ask the garage to look at this it will be a simple job?
The other thing I found was this:
"if battery amps are low(not volts) then the code-reader shuts down and the car won't recognise any keys, red or otherwise. Car can still be cranked over but it won't start"
Can someone explain this to me? I don't understand the amps volts thing. My battery sounds fine but could it be running out of amps?
Thanks all
xS

If the battery is low on charge it can still read around 12 volts, but under heavy load such as starting this will drop right down. If the car turns over fine the starter ok, it's not a battery problem.
It could be as described, poor or corroding connections on the fuse named so you aren't getting a good supply to the right places. It'd be worth lifting the cover and checking.
