Hi All

While driving back on Friday evening after treating the B to a new cambelt and variator for passing the MOT :) i noticed that the lights behind the heater controls on the left side are very dim compared to the right.

Anybody know if this is a simple bulb change and if so how easy is it to do? Also is the clock supposed to be backlit at all?

Cheers

1. The bulb behind the clock is gone.
2. You have two dash lights behind the heater dials, one on each side.

Job is easy and all you need is a screwdriver. Take your time as the trim panels come off real easy so if you are having problems you have missed a screw. Remove the lower trim panel first so you can get at the screws for the heater panel.

Mine stopped working the other day (dash lights that is). I ignored it for a week because I was too busy and now it's working again!

So, if a whack with a hammer doesn't cure it you can always try procrastination!

Hi, I have started to try and change the bulbs today but wanted to check a couple of things. I have removed the four screws behind the gear knob trim (only lost one!) and the lower panel is now loose and can see the three screws holding the heater panel.
Have also removed the middle heater control knob and can see the screw behind it.

Questions are:
1 - how easy is it to unclip the electrical connectors to the windows, clock etc? Do they just clip off/pull off and if so is this how i change the bulb for the clock as i cant see anything when i lift the panel up.

2 - do i also need to remove the radio so i can access the screws behind it to get to the bulbs for the heater controls? i have a new radio with an adaptor plate so not sure if this is a problem

thanks for any help, have only ever changed a tyre and a rear bulb before so would like to get this done myself!

Dear neil_b77,
Start by removing the radio head unit. Yes, it must be removed.
Then unscrew all bolts holding the heater panel.
The heater knobs do not need to be removed. They come out with the panel.
If however you want to remove them, turn them up heading north and pull them out.
The middle knob needs a slim screw driver to unfasten the clip holding it in possition.
All the electricat bits do not need removing. Unfasten the cables and pull the whole panel out. Its all easy!

PS: dont lose any screws! it ratles enough as it is :D
PS2: remember there is a screw under the ashtray :D
Good luck!

It should be a fairly easy job to remove all of the plastic, if any of the panels stick take time to figure out why, forcing panels will crack them

As Stavros says there should be no issues with the replacement head unit and the heater controls just pull off. Let us know how you get on?
