When I turn off the engine and open the door, the overhead console lights don't switch on automatically, even if it's completely dark outside. Is this normal?

What switch? Could you please elaborate? I can't find anything.

Should be Page 24 of your manual, but I don't know the page number for the US Manual

There are no such buttons on my console. There's just empty plastic in their place. :(

US Spec must have struck again then. Do you have a manual? US Manual is available online if not

The car was provided with the manual, but there's nothing in it about the overhead console. Only the Owner's Information DVD contains the info about it, and it shows that there are no extra buttons, just left and right switches.

I can only assume that US spec doesn't include dimming lights then

So I went to the service today for other planned jobs and inquired about the overhead console, too. Luckily, they had a European spec in stock, so I decided to replace it, since it wasn't too expensive. Interestingly, the European spec didn't have the ambient light, so they took it from my US spec and basically made a hybrid with all possible features. What's amazing, I didn't even have to ask! Our FIAT center is the best!

Wow. It's painful enough to get UK dealers to fix what's there, let alone add new bits of kit!

Us dealer's are probably far more used to modifying parts of cars seeing as they are a lot more relaxed with the laws on changing parts then we are in Europe

I'm not in the US, I'm in Europe, too. But I live in Lithuania, which is one of the younger members of the EU, hence the less rigid observance of rules and regulations. :p
