Anyone know details about this?

Just got an email about it tonight and I am wondering if it will give a dedicated data connection for the Tomtom Live data rather than having to use my phone. IMG_0650.JPG

It sounds very much like it uses your data allowance via the uConnect Live app

Does it though? It suggests I can check the car, find where it is parked and see any alerts and such remotely.

Searching just for Mopar Connect gives the options for Alfa, Jeep and so on. The Alfa one says it is a 3G/4G connection so would mean the car itself is connected to the network and is no longer reliant on using a phone to do it.

Hmmm, can't find any reference to data in UK, but in US however

"2G/3G Wi-Fi data can be purchased by the year, month, week or day. One GB is $9.95 a day, $19.95 a week or $29.95 a month or $229.95 for 1GB a month."

Dated 2015

Have you tried asking for more info? According to the Mopar Accessories site the cost of Mopar Connect is £240 without fitting and included "12 months services". That does not seem like enough money for a retro fit 7" HD unit with maps, DAB etc, so I'm left wondering what exactly Mopar Connect is

To be fair data has got a lot cheaper since 2015, but it certainly isn't cheap or generous. 1 Gb could easily be swallowed in a week

Or a single journey of using the Deezer app. I've gone through a gig of data on a 3 hour drive before. Fortunately I have an unlimited data plan!

That's horrendous

Indeed. Especially as 320kbps playback is meant to use a maximum of about 120mb an hour. I literally have no idea why the data consumption was 3x its theoretical limit! I dont think it was streaming FLAC files either.

I just stick to DAB or MP3 files on a USB stick.

Is it me or is this yet another sad use of technology to pamper to gadget connected society. Have we not learnt from Facebook? Do I really need an app to tell me how good or bad I drive? Surely the basic on-board Radio, Media Player, phone connect for hands free etc, possibly Sat Nav is all we need in car. Also Trip & MPG. None of this ever has to be broadcast or shared outside of the vehicle.

If I wanted to be able to locate and track my car, or stream videos for the kids/wife, internet on the move etc. then I can think of far cheaper ways and have the ability to selectively pick-n-mix.
Remote unlock? Hate to think of the potential hacking of that little baby.

It is a pain enough every time you turn the uConnect system on you get the "Blurb" and "Accept" prompt. Hate to think what T&Cs will be involved in Mopar Connect.

To rub salt into any wound from all the reports I've seen here Fiat and dealers can't even get the 90s tech uConnect to work and be thoroughly understood.

If my dealer is typical of all Fiat dealers they don't understand the uConnect units and they definitely don't understand updating the maps

I have tried to copy a link to a video on Vimeo that was in the emailà, but failed. About halfway through it describes how you can remotely track your car and lock it if necessary so that does suggest a 3g/4g connection.

I would be interested if it was able to get TomTom data as the uconnect app is pretty awful.

Sorry Pedrolami but the below item copied from Fiat seems to state that the Mopar Connect services are accessed via the uConnect Live app, and I assume that means it's OUR data it will use.

I think it uses the app as an interface but it must have some data connection to allow remote locking and the theft assistance otherwise you would forever be walking the streets hoping the stolen car connects to your phone in order for it to update its location.

I have tweeted fiat for some extra info but have not yet received a response, so I may visit the dealer tomorrow afternoon once I have recovered from this night shift to find out further information.

I emailed Mopar today for more info, so one of us should find out something.

Well, the dealer knows nothing at the moment. They did get a couple of cards to go on the cars a day or two ago, but other than that they have not been updated by Fiat about it.

Is anyone REALY interested in adding another layer of Fiat technology on top of the festering POS Fiat technology that is Uconnect (that Fiat dealers themselves either dont understand or dont know how to update) ?

Mind boggled

Not really, merely curious. I only use uConnect now for adjusting the settings and listening to DAB or a USB stick.
