Hello,

Looking at a 500x 2016 tomorrow that has 20k on the clock. It’s the 1.4multi air petrol, cross plus trim.

Any pointers on what to look out for? I believe the service interval is 9k miles or 12months? I have seen that the car has fussy oil requirements and as such I will check that if the garage has serviced it. They have put the correct oil in it.

As it’s 2nd hand does the fiat warranty still apply?

Thanks

There shouldn't be any problems re the warranty, as for the rest I'm diesel so can't really comment

Hi Cameron and welcome. You've obviously done some homework, the service interval you quote is correct, and it appears that the only oil that meets the Fiat spec. in the handbook is the Selenia one that it specifies. The second service should involve a lot more than the first, make sure it has all been done.
If it has a correct Fiat service history the warranty should still be valid. Is the selling dealer a Fiat franchise? Whichever, best to get some warranty statement in writing.
I also bought my 1.4 Multiair used, and the dealer had to fix the boot release mechanism, which was hanging loose. I got the impression it wasn't the first one they had fixed, so check this. No other problems in the year I have owned it.
Fuel consumption has been much debated on here, I get low 30's from local runs, just over 40 on a decently long trip. Performance is pretty good, as is seat comfort. Suspension can feel firm if 18" wheels are fitted.
Have as long a test drive as you can. Let us know how you get on.

Despite the warranty supposedly being 3 years when i got mine last summer someone on this forum told me it's 2..... unless you fill out a form at the end of the service book and send this page off in the post with a cheque if i remember correctly for £28.

I did it and i think they sent me a letter saying the warranty had been upgraded to 3 years.

A pfaff I know, but not much of one.

Will be interesting to see what you make of the 500x. If they also have a cross (not cross plus) version, try that too if possible.

Thanks all for the replies so far, it’s very helpful. Just had the dealer on the phone it’s Evan Halshaw Peugeot Dealership. The chap said it was registered on the road March 2016, first serviced in Jun 17 with 16k on the clock.

Please can someone let me know if it’s been serviced in line with manufactures guidance? It means that it will need a service in 4-5k miles or Jun 17 whichever comes first.

I prefer this as I can send it to Fiat to ensure correct oil etc is used.

Any idea on 2nd service costs?

Thanks

I've just booked mine in for a 2 year service for £377. Not cheap, but all makes of main dealer services are expensive now, and this one is just west of London, so not likely to be the cheapest. I've used them before and they have given good service. The service includes oil and filter, air and pollen filters, spark plugs and brake fluid. They are providing a courtesy car.
Strictly speaking "your" car should have had its first service at 9000 miles not 16000. Mine was similar, it wasn't serviced until 14,000 miles. I think these were lease cars. As I bought mine through the Fiat dealer network I'm hoping the warranty would still be honoured, but I will seek clarification when it is serviced. As you are looking in a non-Fiat dealer, I would get something in writing from them.

Is it Fiat parkside?

No, Thames Fiat Slough. I bought my 500 from them new in 2011, and found them helpful and efficient during and after the purchase. I had some iffy aftersales service from the garage that sold me the 500X, so decided I'd rather go back to Thames for this service. Will report on my experience after it's done on the 26th.

I'm a parkside man, well have been in the past.

Always offered a very good service including dropoff and collection for the old 500 but at last service time they wanted £290 for the service plus MOT costs. Then I tried marylebone a couple of times, couldnt even get a response out of them. In the end I just took it to a halfords and got it MOT'd for £30.

Fiat Slough have been good to me though, they were the first owners of my 500x before they sold it to motorpoint...... with 11 miles on the clock.
