The job is done and working fine but I have a question, when I discovered the fault I went to the web and this forum to see how to sort it and it was relatively easy except for one thing.

After dismantling and ready to remove the handle I discovered there are two rods attached to the lock, one of which I removed but I couldn't get the other one off and I was surprised to find the second one as no one had mentioned it.
Luckily I managed to change the hinge and sort the door regardless.

What is the second bar what does it attach to?

One is the lock, the other one the release rod to the latch

The one nearest the front operates the opening of the door and the rear one operates the lock.

You can get a handle in or out with the rear one on but you have to pop the front one off at the top otherwise you can’t get the handle off.

Watch that top front white bush. If you have removed the rod it will probably now keep coming out stopping you opening the door. You can hold it in with a strategically placed cable tie.
