As the title suggests the steering wheel buttons are working intermittently. I've just bought the car and it has been neglected. I suspect the previous owner never used them because the buttons are coming to life the more I press them. I'm thinking that I could possibly spray some contact cleaner into the buttons while they are in situ to try to get them all working. Is this a good idea or could i do more damage than good ?. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

If you have genuine contact cleaner you could give it a try, but you'll need to remove the buttons first, the plastic button will shield the tiny micro switches mostly, could be the clock spring? Or just give each switch 50 presses?

I swapped my steering wheel control switches 2 days ago purely because I found a set that had a different switch on one to mine .... don’t ask ? anyway .... I took apart my old ones as one button kept sticking and sure enough something had obviously been spilt some time ago!

If you want to deep clean them it’s an airbag off situation!! Personally it’s a doddle now but if you not removed one before it’s a bitch!
