So I've discovered the wires are broken in the old wiring loom. I've bought a new wiring loom so I can crimp it all together. Just one question which hopefully you can help with! The pipe bit which is in the wiring loom how do I attach that does it just push on? And where does it push on. Sorry to sound so dumb but before I went and did all the crimping thought I'd better know what I was doing with the pipe bit!

Cheers

Re: Tailgate Wiring Loom repair help!

Brilliant that's exactly what I meant. I just couldn't see how to do it.
Thanks

Note the crimped connectors can create quite a "bunch" this may need careful wiggling in the hatch section as there's little space, just something to consider.

I repaired ours but threaded my own cable through the flexible and soldered them, there's two quite thick wires be sure to crimp well they handle a large current.

Hello, does anyone know the gauges of the wires in the loom? I've deduced that there are three different thicknesses of wire but I don't want to have to cut the wires to measure the thickness of the strands before I order them. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use relatively small gauge all but two wires carry at best 5a most less, only the two rear screen are substantial, I used test meter wire to repair ours, they are all the same colour not that it matters.

Do you think that 24 AWG will be sufficient for those going everywhere but the rear heated windscreen?

note the reason I used test meter wire is that it has many very fine strands not say 8 or 12 thicker ones

This is extremely important if you do not want it to fail again - standard automotive cable will not do.

We've seen many posts from folks who are now on their second or third repair.

Do it right, do it once.

If you can get it, go for a silicone outer sheath in preference to PVC. Something like this would be good.

Remember also that if you need to make a 20A connection and you only have 10A cable, you can always double up.
