The last couple of days my wife complained of a beep from the dashboard when braking. Car is a new shape 65 plate 1.2 lounge.
Checked everything and there is a warning beep about 75% of the time when braking.
Can't see any dashboard warning lights.Checked all fluid levels and they are fine.
Tried pulling on the handbrake when moving and that warning beep is different.
This one is in the vicinity of the multimedia unit.
our dealer suggested it might be a brake light bulb issue. they are all working seemingly , although it was suggested might be a bad connection etc and that if the warning light flashed on it would be difficult to spot it as it would be so brief. Anyone else had a similar issue please?

Hi, sounds daft but you could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour and reconnect/test. (ie "have you tried turning it off and back on again") :)

The only connection between braking and beeping is either the low brake fluid warning or the brake wear indicator.

Check your fluid .. and if it looks anything other than very low, give the float a wipe (and make sure the electrical connections are clean and tight, for good measure).

Then whip the front wheels off and check the brake pads with the wear indicator to make sure the cable is not frayed and is tucked into any retaining clips or hooks so that it doesn't touch anything.

I'd take the one with the wire on it out altogether to examine how it's made and what's happening where the wire is bonded to the pad. If the beep is a legitimate signal from the wear indicator then something must be earthing when you brake... usually it's a frayed or worn wire, just where the wire enters the pad material.

If in doubt/to check.. disconnect the wire from the connector, fold it up and stick an elastic band or wire tag around it to keep it from moving about and getting mashed in the wheel or caliper.. and then drive the car a bit to see if it still beeps or if it's gone quiet. If it still beeps then it's not the wire or the wear indicator. If it all goes quiet.. theh that's the culprit.

Thanks I'll give it a go

Well I think I know where the issue lies ..
The car is fitted with dealer fitted front parking sensors ( not fitted by our garage I hasten to add). I had some time today so tried various things.
I noticed that the warning sound on one occasion that the car beeped when I wasn't braking.
I also noticed when putting the car into the garage that the front sensors gave no intermittent beeping only a solid tone when coming close to an object.
Car is due a service so our excellent Fiat Garage ( Motor Services Chepstow) are going to look at the issue when it is serviced in 2 weeks time.

It looks like Olliesgrandad has aftermarket front parking sensors which are making the beep, so they have now become the prime suspect. I think the braking part was a falsa pista...

But yes, when the time comes it's better to replace the pads with ones with sensors fitted, if the car is equipped with a sensor system. :)
