Since november I feel like am losing my mind as no one seems to see a problem.
When I stop an start my car during heavy traffic my gear will not shift in to any gear.
For example lights go red place my gear to neutral an lights go green my gear won’t move. I have to place my hazard lights on with 5 to 10mins turn my engine off an back on an it will be fine again.

Last week my clutch burnt out, I knew it was going to happen as my
Gears started to not shift an my car started shaking an turned itself off an back on again.

This will only happen to my car if I have to stop an start or heavy traffic. If I get a good run it’s completely fine.

I’ve got a new clutch 5 days ago thinking the problem was gone. Yet yesterday I got stuck at a roundabout an two people had to push me to safety.

I’ve had the gear box pulled out twice an they can’t find a problem. This seems to very intermittent.

Sorry the car is manual an no the hydraulic system wasn’t checked am heading back to the garage tomorrow so I’ll mention that to them. See if that is the answer

The problem was there before the clutch was replaced.

The slave cylinder, on the gearbox, leaks eventually, and are available from most spares suppliers.
The clutch master cylinder has a plastic body and when worn tends to squeak as the piston starts to stick in the bore. If this prevents it returning fully as the pedal is repleased, next time you press, you get less travel than needed.
New cylinders are expensive, but take a little time to search around, especially Ebay, and they do pop up at reasonable prices.

Careful on Ebay. Check the pic. So many people describe master as slave or slave as master. The master cylinder is the one at the pedal, as it does the bidding. The slave is the one at the gearbox as it responds to the demands of the master.

OK I'm glad I asked, I would look at the clutch master and slave cylinders.

When it won't go in gear, if you turn off the engine will it then go into any gear? there maybe a little resistance or you may not be able to select all gears but will it go into any? If it will select with the engine off this suggests the clutch or/and any all the components that activate it. So look at the actuation of it as in my first line as you've had a new clutch?

Yep our slave was weeping so for ease of replacement I replaced the master too(no need to try and undo the coupling!) found the master was also weeping unseen behind the dash, more than the slave, got the master off Ebay as you suggest about £50 from Poland, old but new stock.

Yes, this is most likely a problem with the clutch hydraulics. This is a well known weakness on RHD 500's (LHD cars have a cable operated clutch).

On an older or higher mileage car, I'd just replace the clutch hydraulics complete. If you use OEM parts and buy a master & slave cylinder, you'll get all the pipework you need included.

It's important to fix this as soon as you notice any difficulty in changing gear - if you continue to drive it when the clutch isn't fully disengaging, you'll quickly ruin the synchro rings in the gearbox, and fixing this will mean an expensive gearbox rebuild.

After the gears won’t move an I turn my engine off the gears can easily shift in to 1st, 2nd etc.

Thanks for being able to help me narrow it down an knowing that this could be why. Am taking it back to the garage tomorrow morning.
