I have just bought a 2013 500 lounge which has had a minor for the impact. I’m replacing all the panels but noticed that there are some unconnected wires under the central console. Not sure if these are just for unfitted extras and therefore redundant or if they should be connected to something - nothing obvious but I’m new to new cars - all my others have been classics. Can anyone advise?

Hi I have just checked where that is and there is nothing there so I guess it’s been removed. No airbags have gone off but I suppose the garage I bought it from could have used the ecu on another car☹️ Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Do you also know where this might go?

Here’s a photo

I think that’s just the photo, lights are fine. I moved the wire there to get a good photo. I’ll plug that in tomorrow. Thanks so much for the help, my cars have all been pre 1972, where the electrics were really simple?

Awwww... I think you’re right - that’s quite rude robbing a part like that :( but it’s the sort of thing that happens - as alluded to, ‘clean’ airbag ECUs are always in demand (after an airbag has fired, the ECU stores the crash data and becomes scrap).

Once you’ve finished with the repairs, you’ll probably need a visit to someone with the software (‘MultiECUScan’ or similar) and the cable to clear any error codes caused by unplugged components. Doesn’t have to be a main dealer.

Thanks Alex, I contacted the garage but they said sold as seen? I have replaced all the damaged parts and repaired and painted the wheels so it looks great now. Just the interior to valet and it will be like new?

I bought one for a future project for £40 a couple of weeks ago with crash sensors which I’ve never had to change. They can be had quiet cheap if you get one at the right time.

Good price! Looks like I’ll be paying about £80 for a 2013 one, apparently they are not transferable year to year which is a bugger as I could have had a 2015 one last week for 60 and it was local?

They are transferable. The only difference I have come across is a metal cased one and a plastic cased one. I have changed around 10-15 of these and they have all been the same. You don’t need to get one from the same year.

Really? Just going on what I was told by a guy who resets them. I was slightly concerned that the part number on the 2015 one was different to the 2013 one. If that’s the case I can look a bit wider. Cheers
