Technical Twinair coolant leak from turbo the pipe

Interesting. When it happened to me I examined the tank spigot very carefully but couldn't see any cracks. Of course, I couldn't see underneath properly.
Now that you have identified the cause, I think you should replace the tank. The repair you've done is a good temporary fix, but if the crack propogates the spigot could snap off and you would quickly lose all coolant. Replacing the tank looks a fairly simple d.i.y job. If I had seen any faults with my tank I would have replaced it.

That's what the wife's just said.

Looks like its got no anti freeze in it anyway so must have been like this for a while and just been topped up with water.

Will source and replace. Got the last 2 weeks in August off work so should have plenty of time to sort it.

So far so good. Not a hiss or a fizz

Will get another bottle though because its the daughters car and if it breaks down i will be too bad to burn:nono:

Well,

Cant really tell you how its going with the repair. As of 2 weeks ago the car was T-Boned by a Nissan Juke and is finished  Total cost of repairs 5.5K

Decided to leave the twin air journey and have replaced it with a 1.2 S which i pick up on Saturday.

On a positive the araldite appeared to have cured the problem, I will however be giving this one the once over when I get it home.

Sorry to hear about the accident, hope everyone is ok. I loved my Twinair engine, but the 1.2 is smooth and economical, albeit less powerful. I gather that the plastic bit of the cooling system that fails on it is the thermostat housing, just to be different! My friends wife's 500 suffered a sudden total loss of coolant when hers broke so be watchful. It's also belt cam, unlike the chain cam TA, so be sure that the cambelt, waterpump and aux belt are replaced on or ahead of the scheduled intervals.

Thanks for the tips Trev, Daughters a little sore all down her right hand side but she'll live!!
This one deffo smoother than the twin air but definitely doesn't have the power.

Update: after some weeks that the two new clamps did their job and I forgot about this, today I saw my car leaking a red puddle. Touched the pipe thing, and I can defenetly see that the tank plastic pipe is completly broken and loose.
So Im going to buy a new tank tomorrow locally for a ridiculous price.. should have bought one from ebay when I had the chance.

Noticed today that mine is suffering this fault too. No obvious cracks so I've chucked the original clamp, applied a bit of sealant and fitted a marine-grade stainless jubilee clamp. I'll check it for leaks tomorrow.

To be honest I think I'd be more comfortable getting the tank replaced.

Thanks for the link John, just ordered the tank. Haven't checked the local price but experience suggests it'll be at least the same as the plus-postage price if not more.

Still leaking but just a slight dribble so I'll avoid using the car as much as possible till I get it fixed. At least I don't have to commute to work any more...

You'll have noticed that one comes with the cap and the other not?

That's not too bad a price for the tank. If I'd known for sure that was the fault with mine I would have replaced the tank instead of bodging it, but it did stay "fixed" for a couple of years while I had it. Hope the current owner doesn't have a problem.

The reservoir isn't going to get here till next Thursday, which is cutting it a bit fine as my mechanic is retiring this Christmas and may have trouble fitting my job in.

If worst comes to worst how easy/hard would it be to replace the tank and flush and refill the coolant at home? Bear in mind I have no ramps or stands.

Oh, and no experience for thirty years...

Oh, and no experience for thirty years...

What little I know about coolant draining is to drain it from the bottom hose, and don't use any drain plug there might be on the radiator.

I once learned this through bitter experience (The plugs break.)

Back flushing is good if you can wangle it somehow with a hose.

Good luck.

Just do the tank (for now) add ordinary water given the small amount lost and have the whole lot replaced later, remember if all else fails you can psrk half on the curb so the car is lifted up one side when you have no ramps.
