Is the Plus pretty much the same as the Lounge then? I know my 16" alloy wheels ride quite firmly. I'd probably prefer 15" wheels if I had to choose again.

This. I first noticed this when I was cleaning my side windows and mirrors after dark...

Come to that I think you may have referred to it previously - prob'ly where I picked up the idea...;)

Mine has the Twinair badge, 16" alloys etc. but I thought that was just your standard Lounge spec. About the time I bought it I remember talk of a 'Rockstar' model (did that one have the matte paint?) but don't remember a model called the 'Twinair' and there's nothing in the 2013 brochure.

i will pm you now thanks?

I've removed your number plate, but this came up for your car (y)

So appears it is indeed a twinair plus :)

the matte black paint is the blackjack limited edition, would that be the one your talking about?

Dunno to be honest - could have been if that was available in AU. I went from knowing nothing about FIATs to owning one in a week so I didn't really do much research. Now I think back there was a special 'Gucci' model on offer but that was about it for new cars - I probably saw the others in used car ads.

Yeah I don't remember seeing the TwinAir badged model advertised in Australia. Maybe yours was a special order that the dealer had lying around from earlier (I'm assuming you didn't custom order your car since you got it so quickly?).

I do remember the Rockstar variants in 2013 though, those were the ones being sold on special at a reduced drive-away price. If I remember correctly, the "Rockstar" spec consisted of the TwinAir 85bhp engine, 15" alloy wheels and a more prominent "sporty" rear spoiler. And it only came with the tin top, not soft top.

The Twinair+ was sold during the ATECO/ Fiat AU changeover and wasn't advertised. It was cheaper than the 1.4 it replaced* by some margin, but not as cheap as the Rockstar that replaced it. Fiat very nearly missed my purchase as the last copy of Wheels I had still had the cheapest 500 listed at ~$26k  It was only on a whim really that I visited the Fiat dealer at all (I like to look at everything possibly in my price range and looked at the Toyota 86 and Audi A3 etc). I thought it's over priced but it won't hurt to look.

*The 1.4 made a comeback some time later.

Spot on, give that man an Internet. I think you're right. I've been coming round to the idea that mine was, indeed, a special order that was never delivered. That might explain the 10(!) month delay between build and purchase dates (with its attendant deleterious effect on the stop/start battery). It was manual while all new Lounges were auto.and the leather option sort of supports the idea too - it's not the sort of car a dealer would normally hold in stock.

An ivory soft-top would have been ideal, but you can't have everything....

Oddly enough I only visited the FIAT place on a whim too, mainly because I'd read about the big price reduction at that time. I too considered the '86 along with a (used) MX-5, a MINI Cooper and a Daihatsu Copen (don't laugh).

Mine is just a Twinair...

The air filter housing does not define a 'plus'
Plus has:
Multi function leather steering wheel
16" wheels
Leather gear knob
Dark tinted windows
Climate control
Blue & Me

God, this thread is all over the shop!

The engine covers won't determine the trim level - up until this year when the 105bhp TwinAir was offered, all TwinAir 500s were the 85bhp one, regardless of what the engine cover looked like - generally 2011-2013 have painted (red & white) lettering on the cover, from 2013 onwards it's plain black.

The TwinAir engine was offered to start with on Pop, Lounge & Sport, as per the other engines. However, Fiat quickly stopped offering it on the Pop trim and then phased out the Sport trim & replaced it with TwinAir & TwinAir+ - none of them had a different version of TwinAir engine, it was just the trim levels that were different. The easiest way to spot a TwinAir+ is it'll have 16" alloys instead of 15" ones on the TwinAir, and it'll have climate control instead of manual air con, amongst other things. They were all badged 'TwinAir' on the bootlid, but they don't say + or plus if they're a plus, so you have to look at the equipment to determine this.

You'll find a handful of TwinAir Pop & Sport models, but not many.

Fiat then dropped the TwinAir/TwinAir+ trim levels and replaced them with 'Street' - unlike TwinAir/TwinAir+ the Street was also available with the 1.2 engine and 1.3 Multijet. This only ran for a very short time and they then dropped it and brought in the 'S' trim, which we still have today, which also has all the engines available.

In summary, you can have many models with a TwinAir engine, but if the spec name of the car is 'TwinAir', it'll only have a TwinAir engine - clear as mud ;)

Well summarised, JTD! The designation of Twinair as a trim level was confusing. Its interesting that Ford have continued to use Zetec as a trim level, when initially it was the type of engine.
