hi all, I recently purchased a Fiat 500 Colour Therapy and I was wondering how you activate the temperature gauge.
i've tried looking at past threads but can't find one.
Thanks for the help.

I have read through it and couldn't find it. i've gone through the menu on the screen aswell and haven't come across it.

Are you trying to use the engine temperature gauge (a string of bars opposite the fuel gauge, in the same format) or the air temperature gauge, which is only present if you have the heated mirrors?

Both should "just work".

its the 'air temperature' i mean, sorry for confusion! i dont have heated mirrors, so i probably won't have it will i?

Hi jlb12,

As stated above, if you don't have the colour coded heated mirrors then you won't have the temp gauge.

The Colour Therapy models are essentially Pop trim levels but with aircon, nice colours and vintage looking wheels! My sister in law has one in Pasadoble Red and it looks great. But sadly if she wants to know the temperature she has to hold a thermometer out of the window...

I got one similar to the one below in Lidl last year for about €5.

BACKLIT CAR INTERIOR DASH MOUNT INSIDE/OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE THERMOMETER: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Never really got around to using it properly. Felt that the best place for the sensor was at the rear of the car to get consistent readings. There are other ones but unsure if there are backlit.

I've bitten my tongue a lot on here, but seriously, some of the replies on this thread (and others) are downright rude.

OK so I might personally have done a bit more research before asking the question about the external temp gauge, but this is an open forum and I've seen far worse asked on here.

I know many people on here do their best to assist where possible, myself included, and when you're trying to help people it's easy to get frustrated sometimes, but there really is no need to be that blunt to someone who's just joined the forum.

If people wanna vent some frustration, try doing it on one of the many who appear mainly on the Grande Punto and Seicento section (which I rarely venture onto anymore) & kick off about how sh*t Fiat's are, only to later disclose their car's running double the bhp/torque/whatever, that it should be. Alternatively, purchase a punch bag. I've heard they work wonders.

Have a calm & peaceful Sunday, fellow Fiat Fans (y)
True enough, I was blunt because I thought that the OP was looking for the coolant temp gauge....... my bad for not thinking laterally. My apologies.....

I know I was an arse but there's no need to say it twice :p

I see what you mean about the coolant temperature gauge being more obvious, that's fair enough :)

It's not a personal gripe. On this particular thread I was aiming my post in your direction but you're definitely not the only one on the forum that I could say the same to - and many of the others don't offer the levels of advice & help that you do so really have less of an excuse! It just made me think 'ouch' when I read it, as the OP wasn't one of the typical dizzy airheads that can appear on the forum, ask a few demanding questions and then clear off never to be seen again.

Also, apologies about deleting & re-posting my post - was adding a bit to it and re-posted it after you'd replied

Anyway, appreciate the prompt reply :)

Ditto that JTD_Liam

Well said!

I too have seen some replies, lets just say a bit harsh, blunt and on occasions down-right rude.....

Sometimes this is the best way to deal with a 500 owner, some of which want to come on here, ask for advice, be held in a loving embrace whilst the advice they want to hear is whispered gently into their ear. If you just feed people the information they want, then people never develop the skills to learn for themselves. 5 years ago I knew absolutely NOTHING about modern Fiat's and through listening, reading my manual and thinking about what I read on the screen, I know more than most about the 500. IMHO most people would enjoy themselves and their ownership of their 500 more if they actually tried to understand the car a bit better.

If people want to come on here, say that they've ordered their car, post some pictures when they get it, complain that S&S doesn't work, not heed the advice given, complain about the service costs when they just drop it off at the stealer, whine when the suspension bits fair prematurely, go to the dealer and have the same poor quality bits fitted and then sell their 500 when all the faults are fixed then that's their choice, but it's pretty freaking dumb if you ask me.

If you ask me, the people who get the most enjoyment out of their cars are people like Jnoiles, BGunn, Jrkitching, UFI and all the others who make the effort to understand the car and its limitations and work/drive around those. I serviced my 500 for the first time last weekend and it was a fun little experience, I've done its front discs and pads before, but this was the first time I'd done anything under the bonnet aside from fill up the screenwash, top up the oil or jumpstart it. Getting to know your car is the key to enjoying it, chucking your car through petrol station car washes and mindlessly throwing the keys to the dealer is the first step to a nightmarish and expensive period of 500 ownership.

Again, I apologise to the OP for being rude and not understanding the question.....

Well said, I was tempted to post something myself but I was worried I'd have been as blunt as the original response, which would not have helped :bang: Credit to 306maxi for acknowledging and apologising for his overenthusiastic response. I know how frustrating it is when what seems a 'stupid' question is asked, sometimes for the 100th time, but what we all have to remember is that to the OP this could be the one thing that is stopping them enjoying their ride so a sensible answer is the most important thing in the world to them. It also keeps them coming back which helps the forum grow :D

I think I'd better go and have a lie down now ;)

I agree with most of what you say, and I loved driving my Hyundai Coupe's after I got my hands dirty and did modifications myself (never trusted myself to service them myself but have a trusted indie that does most of the oily bits for me) however you can enjoy a car without knowing exactly how it works. My 500 was new in February and I probably won't do much to it myself for the first two years. I have however read all about the suspension quality issues and how FIAT supplied parts tend to be inferior to patten or replacement parts. To me this says "when the part fails its a good excuse to replace it with a performance part" but not everyone thinks this way.

Sorry my post has caused a stir. I did read through the mannual, and I did go through the settings in the car, I just assumed it was something I could set up as on my old car it was already there. I searched through other posts and online questions but i just wanted a forward answer. I still love my 500 and will learn new things every day about it. Thanks for the replies that have been helpful tho!
