Some nice looking wheels on that link and some scary prices ! :)
Did you have any particular ones in mind for the OP ?

$1,250 per wheel !!!!!

Bit outta my budget!

Thinking more retro than sporting in looks,

polished would look good (IMHO) with the chrome seeing I'm a BNW pop!

16"

£500 max including tyres (know less about tyres than I do about alloys! - but that's a whole new thread...)

Don't think the Abarth petals would suit my car but I like the simple design of the spoked wheels.

Thanks again for the links and suggestions:)

This is really helpful:D

i dont think you can go wrong with those abarth wheels given your budget, for me i'd tend to stick to oem style on the 500, only OZs would tempt me from the aftermarket selection

Will aftermarket non-fiat alloys be as well suited to the car and give the ride and handling improvements I'm looking for?

Yes indeed. Go for a nice set of 15"s and the ride and handling will improve. If you're not after ultimate performance and silly tyre prices stick to 50 profile tyres and in 15" the ride is much improved.

Can anyone recommend any?

Team Dynamic Pro race 1.2's. The lightest option by far (without spending thousands) and Toyo T1R's in 195/50 15" to go on them are £36 each from various online places:

How about used fiat ones as a cheaper option, anyone know of a reputable firm to buy from?

In my experience fiat alloys are heavy lumpen things that jump out and bite the gutters. Especially the 16" O spokes.

Did you ever check the weight the 5o-spokes and the Pro Race 1.2 ?

Hope you don't mine me saying this but that's an ugly looking set of wheels you have on the 500.
Aside for the insurance headache of the 50 profiles they're probably THE best choice in a set of wheels for handling, comfort (Bilsteins :D) etc. on the 500.:)

Not yet. Been lazy. But I know the pro race ones as per the pic above are the lightest 15" you can get for the 500 without going for custom forged ones.

You're confusing mean and awesome with ugly again :D

50 profiles suit my driving style. They tend to break away progressively and let you slide a bit more. I don't like very thin profile tyres on the 500. It tends to hold on them break away suddenly.

Also realised I'm being a fool again. My wheels are the pro race 2.0's. I've been looking at a set of 1.2's for the Elise.

Posted a picture of yours from here and the 1.2 from TMC. Weight of the 15s on the 2.0 seem to be only weight 6.4kgs. So maybe ‘Form follows function’ doesn’t apply wheels. Prefer the look of the 1.2 but unsure how they would look in a smaller 15.

If you're looking for light weight, then you'd do OK with rota wheels. I believe a few of their 15" models are less than 6kg. They start about £110 each

When I was looking (3 years ago) the Rotas that came in 4x98 were horrid and not their lightest ones. Special ordering them in 4x98 was absurd money. Like 15% of the value of the car money. And even then they were only a kilo lighter. Wasn't worth it.

Thanks for all your advice and suggestions, having just missed out on a set of genuine sport alloys on ebay I'm looking at cheaper alternatives.

Seen these in the classifieds, bit unsure which offset etc will fit, here's the specs on the latest candidate:

15" 5 spoke alloys 4x98 pcd suit fiat etc, set of 4

Made by BWA, with centre caps

nice condition with 195/50 R15 tyres, 2x4mm, 1x5mm, 1x6mm, 3 of them are Kumho's

PCD 98

ET 38

6.5J

56mm centre bore

Would these fit without any extra spigots, rings or wobble bolts?

I, as ever am seeking the forums wisdom:worship:

1. Centre bore for a 500 and for most Fiats (apart from the Grand Punto) is 58.1mm. AFAIK to get those alloys to fit would involve getting them machined out.
2. Have an odd tyre 'out' and being a Kumho there would be little value on those tyres. For me personally I was not able to get my own insurance company to agree to a size that was not specified in the owners manual.
3. J width on the 15inch is 6J and since these are 6.5J is 'messes up' the offset. Get the impression that if one goes 7J and E30 it would be equivalent to 6.5J and E35. E38 would probably need to be a little less i.e. E33 to give a slightly wider stance. (Hopefully someone will confirm if I'm correct on this).

In relation to the bi-colour Sport alloys that I recommended - in the Alfa MiTo range if you get the 17 inch Veloce wheels in the bi-colour (slightly Black colour) it costs an extra £500. This used to be exclusive for the Cloverleaf model. So those Bi-colour ones for the 500 are actually very good value for money if the reduced price is still on offer.

So even though you'll be spending a little more on a set of wheels it will 'save' on the insurance premium since you're opting for 'standard' Fiat alloys. A new set of 185/55s in 15s could be got cheapish once you're not looking for a performance set of tyres.

:Offtopic:
Given the number of 500 owners & ex-500s returning to the fold and buying A500s I thought these alloys were something to dream about. A500s don't seem too worried about what sizes are mentioned in the manual. They look very similar to the wheels on the 695 model which funnily enough have the same hubs off the GP.

Thanks loveshandbags, being uber cheap wheels I would have renewed the tyres but if they're not right 'out of the box' I will leave well enough alone in terms of fittings.:)
Those 17's are lovely with a price to match BTW!

@ chas, I'm already watching the arbath copies:p

Every time I get together enough cash for a purchase summat comes up, last month it was a vanity plate:)yuck:) which may never see the front of my current 500 (T500 JWM anyone?) seemed a good idea at the time though:devil:

This month the laptop is in need of some repairs. Oh and I'm moving too alledgedly(n)

If I could stop cash falling out of my pockets I might've made an offer on deeyups wheels:D
