Can anyone recommend a good 12v Tyre Pump ?
What does one look for, any pros and cons and what is sensible price to pay ?
Thanks

ive never tried a digital one but every dial gauge one ive used is so inaccurate its dangerous. but they pump ok, so i just use a cheap one and check pressures with a separate digital gauge.

or just go to sainsburys where its still free, after shopping so tyres have cooled down

Yeah i just stop by a tire shop and give them a pound. At least i assume tire shops gauges are accurate.

I personally have a General Motors branded 12v pump which was provided in place of a spare wheel for my Caddy, which to be fair to it, is not bad at all for accuracy. I do own a decent digital tyre pressure gauge which I use to make absolutely sure the pressures are as accurate as is possible. Rarely in my own experience are foot pumps and for that matter, service station provided airlines accurate.

I bought one of these things about 25 years ago & found that it was so slow & cumbersome to use that most times I ended up just going down the local filling station. Then about 20 years ago I bought a small portable compressor & tank on a trolley, which I still use & has paid for itself many times over - it charges up in a few minutes from a 13A socket & then can be unplugged & wheeled to the cars. I can check & adjust 10 tyres in almost no time at all & it gets used for many other jobs as well.

But if you had a blowout late at night in a remote area & discovered your spare had gone soft, having a 12V compressor in the boot might prove priceless :).

Amazing isn't it? Why seemingly, most people completely forget about their spare tyre (if they have one! - I bought one because I was disgusted one wasn't provided in a brand new car). Seriously, most people might check their tyre pressures regularly then completely forget about the spare. And you're right, a 12v pump is a fantastic bit of kit in the circumstances you mentioned and I wouldn't be without one.

Hence my comment about checking 10 tyres.

2 cars = 10 tyres* ;).

* Unless you're Maxi - in which case it's 101 tyres per car  .

I have got the one that come with my Audi, When I px'd it I "forgot" to include it.
Come to think of it I also have the one from our BMW when we px'd that somewhere in the garage.
They both do the job well.

Well i have the one fiat gave me! Since i dont have a spare tyre = (( Maybe i should have gotten one but i do must of my driving in the city, close enough to a tyre shop for a quick repair on the side of the road and a drive to the tire shop!

Let me see.

9 tyres for the 500 and 7 tyres for the Subaru. Only 16 in total :p

Got 9 wheels for the 500 and 13 for the Subaru. Flat tyres are not a problem in our house :D

Unfortunately the crappy repair kits mean your tyre cannot be repaired properly afterwards so it's a new tyre every time :(

Yeah i see what you mean but i dont get punctures that often and if i get one now after 20,000 miles + on the same set of tires i think it would be wisest just to switch all 4. now if this happens after a few thousand then tough luck for me i'd guess id change only one tire.

Once my moms car had 5 year + old tires on and one of them had a slow puncture so it was most prudent to change all of them! 5 years is plenty on the same set, no matter how low your mileage is (her mileage after 5 years was barely 25,000 miles)

Some tyre failures can't be patched up at the roadside. If you're unlucky enough to have one of those & you don't have a serviceable spare wheel, your bad day has just got much, much worse.

Yup. We had an incident like that a few months ago, massive masonry bolt through one of the Subaru's tyres and it was dead instantly. Foam wasn't going to save that tyre.....
