Technical Tyre Replacement

Technical Tyre Replacement

Completely off topic here but B&O products are miles ahead of Sony in terms of build quality and picture/sound quality. Their audio ranges are absolutely superb and can't compare to a single thing Sony currently has on the market!

Yes you are, lol, but seeing as it's you I'll step in and totally agree. I always choose B&O despite them being so expensive as the quality, both of product and sound is the best you will get without venturing into true audiophile territory.

However, I don't reckon their TVs as being value for money and always buy Panasonic. For the money they are top performers.

This is my setup at home.

Apologies to the OP ahmett but I reckon he has picked the yokos at this stage or he will in another 15Km. :)

Grimwau - I hope your neighbours still have you on their christmas car list with those 8000s - most guys are not let past the front door with them. :)

This is a picture of my not so pretty 'under the bonnet' shot. I reckon dismantling the turbo of a TA is a simplier job than joining the wires of each amp together . One of the connections got loose recently and the system was coming on in the middle of the night. I blamed the father-in-law when he was coming in late at night and there was 'holy war'.

Cheers Mike, not sure about the Xmas car list, lol but the beauty of the 8000s is that they sound great even at low volume and although the wife won't let me have a surround sound system I do route the sound from the V+ box through them when watching HD music videos as you only need stereo for that.

Actually I am keeping a very open mind regarding tire replacement, I may even check out the Dunlops (40 euros less than the contis). Come closer to tire replacement or when i actually decide to replace them at once, I will call someone I know who is in the motor trade themselves and ask them to give me a price list of all the tires, maybe then we can discuss again and if I decide, I will inform of my decision.

Regarding Tires on Fiat 500's I have so far seen
Continental Premium Contact 2
Michelin Energy (don't know exactly which one)
Bridgestone Turanza (dont know exactly which one)
Dunlop SP Sport 1.
To be honest, it seems the more specced up versions (like the 1.4) always seem to have Conti Premium Contact 2, especialyl I guess the latest ones.

I have pulled this from the TA thread to keep it 'clean'.
Re the CPC 2 I think this is the best overall performer being good in the wet (good for me) and are also reputted to be a 'quiet' performer but not so good on 'rolling resistance'. The Bridgestone Turanza would appear to be an excellent summer tyre and and an ideal partner with a set of winter tyres. For you ahmett in Greece the Bridgestone Turanza (funds permitting) could be the best performer if you still have the 1.4 :)

Can't we make winter tyre discussions like grouse shooting and have an "open" and "closed" season, so that they cannot be mentioned between april and August. Then Maxi can celebrate "the Glorious Twelfth".
:yeahthat:

When I was checking out the US spec for macdebbie they listed the tyres as being 'all season' and on a close up on one of the 'autotrader' web sites it showed a Bridgestone but I couldn't make out the particular 'model' - it was a 15 incher.
I double checked the US models on 'macdebbies' URLs and the 15 inchers they were using were 'all season' tyres' and included the Firestone, Contipro contact (used on the 15s & 16s), firehawk GT (most common) with the last suitable for light snow !

Came across this guide on the Fulda site on how read a tyre...

Hi guys, just ran into this review. While the size may not be the exact same it is similar and many of these tires can be bought for the Fiat 500.
So if you plan on replacing your summer tires for the fiat, check out this review.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2011-European-Summer-Tyre-Test-195-65-R15.htm
The problem with that test is that a lot of those tyres don't exist in 195/45 R16 or in 185/55 R15 and the size is siginificantlt different enough to mean that the results could be way off the mark in either of those sizes.

From what I see in 185/55 R15 (the stnandard fiat 500 tire) they have the contis, the good years, the mitches, the pirellis, and the dunlops at least. Not to mention class winner Vredestein ( i may look for those in the Greek market).
I am suprised to see the Good Years low because the GoodYears seem to be the standard tire that is supplied with the latest Fiat 500's from what I see on the road.

I doubt many people would by the Nokian or the Luganos anyway!

I have the Contis but I think i will dunlop it up for the next ones.

What they don't show is that there are more tyres in the test

http://www.adac.de/infotestrat/test...R15.aspx?ComponentId=63377&SourcePageId=31821

and that the top 7 tyres are all recommended.

Personally I wouldn't buy based on those tests, as I said, the tyres on 500's are sufficiently different in size and weight rating that a tyre which did badly in that test would do well on a 500.

Almost at 25 k miles and tires are still at 5.5 mm. Looking good for the time being! Having a light car like the 500 does wonders for the tires!!!

Hi guys quick question. I dont know why (i think its availability), but 195/50 R 15 tires are 100 euros cheaper for a set of 4 than 185/55 R 15's!!! Ive noticed many people in Greece have replaced their set's of Fiat 500 tires with this option. What do you guys think? its not on the manual of course. (this tire size), but the tire shop person told me there is hardly any difference.

This is the size of tyre that the Ka uses. Obviously make sure your insurance company are aware, but I don't see a big problem.

Its looking like i will replace the stock conti's with the 195/50 R 15 V Michelin Pilot Exaltos. They look pretty decent at a good price. But i dont need to replace the tires yet. Still going good after 50,000 km.
I asked why the 195's are 100 euros cheaper than the stock 185's and he said because no one uses the 185's except Fiat.

They sound like an excellent choice and have used then on a A500SS in 17s & they were brillant. Do you see any issue with your insurance company in going outside the Manufacturer's spec or does it matter in Greece ?

Yes i was happy to see them and at a reasonable price (270 euros for 4). This is most likely the step i will be taking and recommend it to all Fiat 500 owners who have 15 inch rims when they need to change their tires.
I'll ask my insurance broker when i renew my insurance in September. From what i see my tires wont need changing for a while yet.

You might be better off asking now so that you can look for a standard set of 185/55s if they refuse. September is only a few weeks away and you'd better off concentrating on a better quote than clouding the premium renewal with a set of wider tyres.

Well i changed my tires today from 185/55/15's Conti Stock Premium 2's to 195/50/15 Michelin Pilot Exalto's. Now obviously they feel better and since the other tires were down to 3mm its no use comparing them for now haha. So far i have not pushed my tires as i dont want to destroy them the second i got them. I'll let you guys know how they feel, but from what i see i think every Fiat 500 driver on the 15 inch rims should switch to the bigger size when replacing their tires.

I really do not think there will be much of a fuel consumption difference and for some reason 185/55/15's are about 50-100 euros more expensive than 195/50/15's since the latter are much more mass available it would seem.
