General 500 TwinAir?

General 500 TwinAir?

I'm trying to be good when it comes to added extras, I've already decided on the lounge, but with electric sunroof, and I was thinking Tech

I had a look at the THG with the Red strip and it does look pretty good. (y). And it's good to see that you are a waver :wave: :)
On the Electric sunroof it works out expensive on the lounge because you're getting a glass roof anyway. If you keen on the black ambiance it works out better value getting the Sport model and having the electric sunroof as an extra. You'll end up with half leather seats which are much nicer than the Pop or Lounge seats if you can live without having the touch of red . But unfortunately the Sport model has been temporarily 'discounted' and I don't know the release date of the new Twin Air + models - imagine that it must be 'just around the corner'.
On the interscope - you have the sound of the engine to listen to - it will be more fun !

i just had a look on the config and the sport worked out a little more expensive, but if it isn't available it makes no odds to me! I would wait, but the APR is severely low on the finance at the mo, so I may as well just bite the bullet.

I did rather enjoy the noise of the engine!! Much better than my car (the same sound and power as a hamster running in a squeaky wheel), although I'd rather not talk about my Aygo after the dismal part/x they offered me :bang: but after I made a fuss they took some money off the price of the 500, which is nice...I guess

When I plugged in the figures for the Sport & the Lounge I got 13,120 for both i.e. 280 for the paint and the 575 for the Electric sunroof. On the Lounge you already have a glass roof worth 315 but if you opt for the opening roof you are charged 575 the full amount - the same on the sport. I would imagine that the pricing will be the same with the new Twin Air + specs. Anyway on Finance options I got the impression they were doing 'good deals' on the Lounge models (the sports when they were available were more expensive) - this might have changed now.

A lot of guys like the sport model because of the better seats and the spoiler ! Some of them are not to bothered about the chrome. These will be 'carried over' to the 'new' models.

Re the trade ins - prices that they offer are always brutal - if you can take the pain of selling the car yourself you're better off and still take his extra discount on the new car !

It sounds like you're just there now with the order (y).

I'm ordering it today :D:D:D

I've just got to ask a few questions before I do though, I've heard that when your car is under warranty you don't have to go to a fiat dealer for a service, it can be any garage that does servicing as long as they use fiat approved parts?

The dealer nearest to us tends to be a total rip off (OH got charged £200 extra on his just for doing the spark plugs etc) so I don't really want to go with them! Plus I'm not sure if being on finance means you're obliged to take it to the dealer for a service?

So as long as that all gets sorted, I'll be one happy happy bunny by tonight!

Threads here and on the Fiat club forum suggest that the TwinAir is only more economical than the 1.2 if you treat it gently.
I ran two 1.2s over a year as BSM learner cars, they stood up to the abuse better than either the Corsa or Fiesta, also giving 45-48mpg teaching, which is very good. I thoroughly recommend a 1.2.
If looking at or tempted by used, there are a few ex-BSM cars out there. Most have stood up well and are changed usually at 18-20000miles, tell-tale is "Fiat Fleet" on the number plates and V5. Don't be afraid of these, but walk away if you have any doubts. Beware, some do not have air-con. Most should be aircon and bluetooth.
You'll love it.

Good advice but be careful not to rely 100% on the numberplate point - a lot of dealers routinely change numberplates to their own "branded" ones when selling used cars, and the general rubbish quality of number plates these days means they seem to need changing regularly anyway.

I always try to speak to the previous owner - last time I did that it turned out the car (not a 500!) had been owned by the former chairman of ICI!

(y).

Loveshandbags you speak with so much experiance, do you drive a mito or a 500 - only kidding :D

If I could change one thing (well 2 things) after having bought the 500 Lounge, it would be to sports seats (not leather) to hug better and solid colour and go for 16" spokes as Maxi said at the beginning - they do stand out - not sure why I discounted them.

re part-ex we saw this fab sport with about 20 miles on clock, great car but lacked a few bits we wanted, however we were offered £260 more against that car for part-ex than a new one. So if you dont need finance and can find a pre-built model try to get a px price for that.

btw: xenons are amazing and with the dark evenings in UK the lights are an extension of your car, get them if keeping car for many years. Interscope sub under seat is a blast - literally. As mentioned before dipping mirror is solid and a nice luxury, if you can stretch go for gear knob in leather as well.

Thanks for the advice :) I took the TA out for a long test drive, about an hour and half, and I was quite happy with the mpg. I think the reason why I prefer it is because I can either drive economically, or I can be a bit rougher with it occasionally if I can afford it ;) so it's nice to have the choice, if you know what I mean!
I have looked into used, but I'd be paying 3-4k extra for something that's basically the same as my car, but a bit more comfortable :p as they were all quite basic, and my car is under 20k miles.

also arorat, thank you for your advice too! I did consider the 16" spokes, but I am trying to keep extras to a minimum, after all, as I am doing finance I can always chop it in for someone with more options in a few years time :) This will only be my second car so I didn't want to go over the top with it, but there is always room for improvement in the future! :D

Well today I'm a 500 driver ;) and if the OH is away I often go for a blast in her mito but she has now resorted to hiding the keys:cry:. A 'good tip' to all those girls out there (y).

I do agree with you on all the extras & IMHO I think the 5o-spokes with the red caliper upgrade (you can only get this on the 1.4) but you can emulate with the 'touch of red' - would set the THG off really well - but unfortunately its all ££££££.

You've definitely picked the right engine (y). The best 'thing' about getting a new one is the warranty (the TA is a 'new' car). If you stick with main dealer servicing it will make it easier in the wobbly 3rd year and if something goes wrong and doesn't clearly come under 'warranty' they will be more inclined to do a goodwill. That £200 2 hour labour service to include the spark plugs make end up being a cheap one.

That's very true, I'd rather stick with the dealer, I think my OH's Punto cost about 450 in total, they quoted him 250, then charged him the extra 200 afterwards for quite basic things done. It was his 2 year service, I believe. Is this the norm? I think it's worth asking them for a rough price for each year, cos then I know how much I should be saving towards it :)

also, just realised I referred to getting a new car as "I can always chop it in for someone with more options in a few years time"

Really mustn't start personifying cars!! I already feel guilty as hell 'cos I'm getting rid of my current car, as soon as I pulled out of the Fiat garage it started making a new rattling noise that I haven't experienced before, it must know its fate is sealed!

The ride of our TA is better than that of the Aygo. Economy is slightly worse for us.

Insurance is cheaper for the 1.2 than the TA, though road tax is slightly more.

When buying new it is very easy to get carried away with extras for the 500!

On servicing costs you will have to keep the dealer on their toes giving them the opportunity of price matching.

Looking forward to this new THG and the red stripe !
It's great to see someone brave doing something different (y)

help me here... I have been reading on this forum to get the Dealer to price match - price match against a non-Fiat garage service? are we under warranty not obliged to have the car serviced by Fiat.

THG - is the OP sure about this colour, to me it seems like a basecoat, sorry but its a purely personal opinion.

On the servicing - I just pay the money. I got used to get done over on the Beamer.(n)

I have a play with the config with it came 'back on line' and if you opt for the THG, the red strip, the 5 o-spokes and if you pick the 1.4 for the red calipers you can 'see' the red coming out. Like black it might need the chrome and but not a fan of having it on the mirrors - prefer them to be colour coded. Still it will eibeth's car and I wouldn't want to influence her spec. :)
There are downsides with the bigger wheels and on the TA it would be for show. I thought the standard sport wheels looked good on the THG but Mrs. Loveshandbags likes the multispokes - which are standard on the lounge.

I have been told that as long as the garage in question uses fiat approved/manufactured parts, it doesn't void the warranty.

And I understand what you mean with the THG, but it's by far my favourite colour thats available at the moment, with the Ragamuffin Red coming second. I wouldn't like it just on its own, but I think the red seats and red stripe will work well :)

I think the 1.4 sport is an option to consider a few years down the line (when hopefully, I will be earning more money and doing less of a commute) because I am loving the red brake calipers! It's a shame they don't do them as an option on the lounge. I like the multispoke alloys as well, no point paying extra for the 16" as I'm bound to curb them at some point! I also considered the chrome wing mirrors, but as I would be parking on a main road, I don't want to run the risk of damaging them, as I'm sure it's harder to repair chrome than body coloured? At least the lounge comes with the chrome kit, so there is something shiny

this is correct

brillant comb but the leather costs ££££

you can buy the red rimmed centre caps for around £15 each and the temperature paint for the calipers (you could do just the front ones - you have no back ones !) for c. £20.
Chrome mirrors backs are easily retrofitted at c. £70. Colour coded ones are best IMHO. A lot of POP drivers get the chrome because of the std. 'orrible plastic backs. But I can understand you like the chrome.
Wheels - curbing them - that's very easy. I did mine on the old one . Luckily some of the new tyres have a protection rim which help a little. They're on the new 16s - I'm not too sure about the 15s.

A picture of the red painted calipers. You wouldn't have the discs on the back but you can 'get the picture'. :) This car had the red leather but the drivers seat had a 'sag' problem.

Good luck later emibeth :D I'm ordering mine on Thursday, I've been holding off incase dealdrivers came up with any offer on the 500 (they haven't!) so I'll bite the bullet and get it ordered this week.
I'm going for a TA too - lounge in volare blue with ivory interior (gutted the yeah yeah green isn't still available though!). Definate extras for me will be the ESP option and side rubbing strip, I'll more than likely get the automatic climate control too. I'm still undecided on the tan leather seating at the mo though - they look lovely but I'm not certain whether I want to pay the extra or not. I quite like the multispoke standard wheels so will stick with them.

Thank you! :D I'm kinda kecking myself a little, I'm super excited but more than a little nervous about committing to something so big and expensive! I was going to wait a month or two to order mine but they offered me a pretty decent APR rate, and he seemed to think I would get mine around July time, maybe a bit later. I quite like the volare blue, it looks much nicer in real life than it did on pics. The tan leather looks pretty lush, but its pretty bloody expensive, where I park at work tends to get the sun on it, so the last thing i want is to burn my bum on my seats when i want to go home :p I like the multispoke best too, OH has 17" multispoke on his. Bit sad really, his is red outside with black/grey interior, and mine will be like an inverted version
