Just lowered my 1.2 by diesel today with a set of Eibach sportline progressive springs,, its the first car ive had where you didnt need spring compressors to remove the springs . the back you just jack at its jacking point undo the top shock mount and the rear arm drops low enough for you to just pop out the spring and replace it with the new one the front was only a fiddle due to the mc Pherson strut but once the shock was out you could wind the nut to the very end and with one hand compress the spring enough to pop it undone there was only a quarter of an inch in it . Well as i say it was really easy and what a great result not only dose it look much better but it now goes round corners like its on rails with pretty much no skipping on moderately fast bumpy corners totally planted and the ride isnt any harder at all i was suprised it didnt notice any diffrence just much more positive its a great mod !!

They should give this option as new and i think we would all take! it its not too low its just right, the ride is really the same but the handling is beyond what i expected it stuck (like evo glue ) to a couple of roundabouts that i used to drift my 200 hp defender around like my friends AMG id stuff him now but he would kill me to 150mph .... The drop at the back is 45mm but the front is 50mm so they say . But it looks just right if your thinking dont just do it..

The public roads aren't racetracks you know.....

What did you do to the rear bump stops with regards to lowering the car?

Do Eibach provide new bump stops, or guidelines on modification of bump stops? As your car is now by your account 45mm closer to them & there is little space as standard.

On the rear you leave the bump stops the same and there seems to be quite alot of travel before they would touch anything but the kit provides replacements for the front ( which is lowered more than the rear) that are just a little bit shorter id say 2 cm 3/4 of an inch , ive taken it over some gentle speed bumps with a friend in the car and it hasnt struck its stops so all seems good i think they have thought about it a little.

Just had a look at the back there is only about three inches before it would touch the soft part of the bump stop i may have to shorten the original assembly if i get a problem..Nice one!! Zanes

I should have added I only very briefly looked at the bumpstops when I was under the back checking the backbox! ;)

Here's a picture of the standard suspension on a 500c. As you can see there's not much travel before you hit the bumpstops!

Ill see if i can get a pic of mine tomorrow but it still has clearance even before the soft stop, but like anything if theres a problem it can be modified..

There is not 3" of travel at standard ride height before bump stop is reached, so lowering it only brings them closer.

Did you measure the suspension after fitting it, even just getting a friend to bounce up and down on the rear sill with one person looking at gap you will see that although it in no replicates how brutal the suspension movements it is put under even on normal UK A & B roads, never mind speed bumps and pot holes, you can make them pretty nearly touch.

The bump stop is not soft at all, its a very hard bump stop with little give hence why the back end of 500's can feel very skittish on bumpy roads as the suspension bottoms out on them.

Just try and compress one, not bend it side to side, but compress.

The kit came with two slightly shorter front stops nothing for the rear i didnt know they were included untill it had arrived the kit was the Eibach sportline ebay shop ricerocketuk , altogether im really pleased with the whole thing if i have to turn down the nylon sections in the rear stops ill do it but there dosent seem to be a need at the moment surely other forum members have fitted this progressive spring set how are they getting on with theirs ?

I havent had someone heavy in it or rocking it yet with me looking under it but the stops are made in three sections and the center could be turned down if the need arises, the springs are progressive unlike the the pogo springs i replaced at the moment with my journey to work and back plus buzzing about tonight all is ok but if i have to modify the stops ill let you all know..:)
