General Drivers side door handle HANGING OFF!!!!!! :(

Ha, no I run two ebay stores and I am on ebay a lot.
I have a few of saved searches and "fiat 500" is one of them. If it gets listed and has the words fiat 500 in it I see it.

Thank you 'quartermaster' rui!

As you should :) I always laugh when people post a link to an auction for wheels because all it will do is drive the price up.

Ok handle is knackered. Hanging off, all clips broken and the garage has told me not to use it (going to be a pain because I have back issues and now have to climb into the car until next week, being the earliest I can get it fixed, not to mention the logistics of getting the small one in the car as well lol).

Fiat are charging £65 + vat for the new handle plus more money for the clips. Going to cost me about £150 all in........ will that repair kit mentioned above work do you think?

Grrrrrrrrr! :)

Why don't you buy the kit and go to an indie to fix it? Should cost much less than 150.

don't know yet if the kit will fix it. Waiting on my guy to come back to me - he's researching it. I'm not going to Fiat, but local friendly Ford dealer who never rip me off which is good news (they area always doing work for me without charging :) ). However, Fiat have said the whole handle needs replacing (it's currently hanging off the door and neither the inside nor outside parts work) but my guy is going to see if a repair kit will work. However, that kit may take a week to get here so it's a bit Catch 22 - do I pay extra to have it done at a convenient time or wait possibly until the new year (with other commitments I have) and use a repair kit..... hard call.

I know my back isn't going to survive the clambering around - chiropractor will be pleased with the extra dosh !

Maybe the indie can order you the parts quicker? Or worst case buy the part from Fiat and not get ripped off with their labor? Let us know, this may come in handy for me in the future!

Hi folks....I'm new to this forum which I've discovered after researching reasons why my 08 500 (mine from new, 49000 miles) cast its driver's door handle yesterday. Photos on this thread made it clear what has snapped.....the inferior alloy hinge, that part connected to the handle, not the door panel. I'll look to get the repair part now offered by Fiat and fit it myself.....thanks for the tip about the blue plastic socket removal btw.
As for other failings, from it being 6 months old I complained about its rusting silencer box (there's a small weep hole at the forward end of the "rear" box, but now the outer skin of the box is almost rusted away in that area). And the front washer jets have been replaced three times (yet where I live we have a reasonably mild climate so the Dealer's explanation that they "blow" because of icing up only serves to show their poor quality). And the roof blind doesn't retract especially easy, though easier than it used to after a Fiat mechanic spent a day "persuading' it. And the crankcase breather pipes have been renewed twice.
Consumption isn't startling either, about 48 mph being average despite a fair proportion being motorway driving.
But it does fit in the drive easily and I can park it in town where most other drivers cant get theirs into the small spaces. And it buzzes around London like taxis.

£227 poorer but have a working handle. Wish I'd just left it until fell apart now rather than taking in to get lubricated. Expecting it to sing Jingle Bells at me for that price. Expensive these cars aren't they.....this year had this plus Rear bush things.

No Wii-U for me now :(

Ive had two breather pipes, wiring gone faulty to tailgate, door handle broken, rear bush arms, brake discs ..... Never had this problem with the only other car I've kept beyond three years which was a Citroen AX. Had that without any warranty nor other issues and even had same tyres for whole 5 years. Oh and my blind doesn't retract fully anymore either

Hi Heidi

Do you still love your 500 though...I am awaiting receipt of mine-twinair funk white and leather interior....can't wait!

Still not had the chance to replace the hinge of my driver's door handle but I did manage to get one from the Fiat Dealership.....once I persuaded Parts that such an item existed by showing them the eBay link.....Fiat call it an articulator, I think, or 'joint per mani', part number 0051939041 and it cost just £8.15 incl VAT, so quite a saving on the eBay price.
Once it stops raining, Christmas has passed and I have the inclination I'll strip the door down and post photos of how it's done.
