General Drivers side door handle HANGING OFF!!!!!! :(

Though my 500 who is four tomorrow, has had the following issues: new control unit; power steering failure, deteriorated a/c condensor, faulty wiring in the boot causing it to fail its mot - told if it fails again I will need a loom for tailgate replacing, whatever that is.

We know you mention this every time you post. Members here have told you what to do to rectify your problems, please take note.

This is the list of faults that our 500 has had.
power steering failure
hill holder constant fault
boot lock jammed
boot lock wiring shorted out
clutch peddle snapped
washers packed up
handbrake cable brackets snapped
door handle snapped
oil change warning fault
numberplate light wiring failed
eats sidelight bulbs
steering lock stopped working

All in the first 3 years

This has been the most unreliable Fiat we have ever had (we have had many) and will definatly make us think twice about getting another.

Are you STILL going on about this?

You can't post a list like this and then not explain the individual faults. Some of them like the washers are probably ridiculously minor faults which require a fix that takes the dealer a couple of minutes to perform.

The washers took 1 hour 45 minuets the first time and 35 minuets the second time.

The hill holder plunger has been replaced so far 4 times and has just started to play up again.

And for your information I have only mentioned this list once before so get your facts rite.

That is a long time, as according to Wikipedia a minuet is a social dance of French origin for two people, usually in 3/4 time. The word was adapted from Italian minuetto and French menuet, and may have been from French menu meaning slender, small, referring to the very small steps, or from the early 17th-century popular group dances called branle à mener or amener.

:ROFLMAO:

got carried away with spell check.

Lovely image of the Fiat "technicians" dancing round with spanners.:spin:

Fiats owned: 2
1- 500 1.2 Sport, owned for 2 years. Faults (fixed under warranty): broken door handle
2- Grande Punto Abarth, owned for 2 years (ongoing). Faults (fixed under warranty): coolant leak

Not extensive experience or lengthy Fiat ownership but I found my cars to be reliable and trouble free (touch wood, may it long continue!:D). Sadly for some, not all Fiats are created equal...

WOW:worship:

first two attached pictures (taken from Adrian Bravo 's Guide "How to fit Fiat 500 door handles to a Bravo) show "the way it should be" , 3rd what - in my case - causes the "malfunction"

Mine have not snapped off so far. Though I can see some differences in the broken casting and the ones on my handle, perhaps they where revised.

My hinge moved really freely there did not seem to be any chance of it binding up, and the pin was such a loose fit it would drop out if the hinge was removed from the handle itself.

Hello, My wife's door handle fell off last week, and I just fitted the new one myself.
It took a couple of hours going slowly & carefully. Very happy I didn't break any clips or chip any paint.
Hardest bit was finding how the door card comes off. I found what I needed in the door sound insulation guide

There's a couple of things that I wish I'd known before starting:

1) The blue plastic socket on the lock that the rod from the handle fits into also clips onto the rod, and needs to be pushed off before pulling out of the socket. I just brute force pried it out and feel lucky I didn't break it.

2) The lock barrel is held in the old handle by a wire retaining clip underneath the black plastic actuator on the back. Break the plastic off, and the lock retainer is obvious.

That info may be on the forum already, but I didn't find it.

Thanks,

Jon

Have done a search on here for falling off door handle and this thread came up.

Today I noticed that the driver door handle on my 2008 lounge is not going back snug with the door when it has been used. I have to push it back manually

Should I get it looked at as is it perhaps the start of a failing handle OR do other owners have the same issue? I don't use fiat dealer any more so if need to replace will have to find somewhere to order from

Apologies for spelling errors - on iPhone and hard to use FF on it!

Thanks

Suspect it just needs lubrication :)

Ha, no I run two ebay stores and I am on ebay a lot.
I have a few of saved searches and "fiat 500" is one of them. If it gets listed and has the words fiat 500 in it I see it.
