Hopefully I will soon sell my car and buy a Fiat 500 .

I plan on keeping it for (at least) 6 years.

I'm driving 30-35.000 km per year ~ 200.000 km over the next 6 years.

So should I go for the 1.2 or the 1.3?

In danish prices the total cost per year is more or less the same for the 1.2 and the 1.3.

But can a 1.2 petrol engine last 200.000 km?

I drive about 130 km/day mostly motorways at 80-130 km/h depending on the traffic so it will be long trips at a steady speed.

similar engines in Cinquecento Sportings have done 130000 miles, with head gasket change

i would say the diesel will easily do 200000km and is the one to choose

Definately the diesel, with that mileage itll be far cheaper on fuel if the cars the same price.
The 1.3 diesel was designed with a 250,000km life if I remember right.

Ive got the 1200 engine in my Stilo and its done 137000 miles so far which I make well over 200000km. Average consumption 48.0 mpg . I wouldnt even consider a diesel.! Fiat engines last and last.

My punto 1200 8v 60hp from 2001 has 180000km on clock and the engine was never opened (not even for head gasket change). I think this fires engines are rough and durable but for that kind of trips i would consider the mj because of the economy and the tork that will make motorway driving very smooth, although i love to rev this little italian motors and i'm a fan of petrol!

The 1.2 when looked after should make 200,00 km easily. But as your doing that sort of mileage and doing it on mainly motorways the diesel would make the better choice financially.
