Right then, I've been watching the mpg thread for diesels & wondered what others are getting with the petrol engined variants & what's the diference mpg-wise between the 1.2 & 1.4?

Mine, nicknamed 'Chubs' after seeing the pictures of the modern 500 next to an original, has returned 42.3mpg over it's first 1700 miles on a mixture of town & dual cabbageway motoring.

Depending on mood, it will manage between 39 & 44 per tank-full. I also gave up on eco-drive as it wanted me to drive like the most boring person in the world...

over to you, then!

worst: 18.9 on a trackday (pic attached)

average 36 mpg

best 43 mpg on a 70 mph run

car is a 1.4 Sport, not remapped - done 9000 miles

1.4 sport, 9000 miles.

Best 38.9 mpg
Average 37.2 mpg
Worst 33.6 mpg

I reset the computer before going on the track on Friday. 5 hours on Bedford Autodrome I went through 2.5 tanks of petrol in my 1.4 lounge and got an average consumption of 13 mpg. :D

I've reset it again and left the Toyo R888's on for a run from London to Birmingham yesterday. 24.5 mpg.

Sticky tyres + spirited driving = bad fuel economy.

1.2 Lounge

Seems to be leveling out at 44.0 mainly country roads, 2000 mls.Havn't used it on the motorway yet:)

1.2 pop
Normally mid forties, but at the mo i'm having to take it careful cos we're on 4 days at work:(, Bj has to do the to and from work (13 miles each way) plus running around on a tenners worth a week - Ave mpg at the moment is 55.

average over a couple of tank's is 45mpg best over any decent distance is 63mpg worst is 39mpg 39 was when the car was pretty new (less than 1000 miles) best can be done anytime i can be bothered but the 63 was done when i was using eco drive.
car is 1.2 sport 9,000 miles

1.2 sport with over 14K on the clock 46.8 mpg which to be honest I think is a little poor most of the driving is on the motorway.

Broadly speaking, the typical mpgs are -

For 1.2 - mid 40s

For 1.4 - mid 30s

For both cars, with a light foot and a long run you may well do better than this. So much depends of course on your driving style, and the nature of your journey. But there is a lot of difference in fuel consumption between the two cars - and a lot of difference in performance, too.

1.2 lounge

Im averaging mid 40s, in age as well as MPG. Im popping around in town mostly though. When ive been on longer/faster hauls its gone up to mid 50s.

Eco:drive and me are falling out...
the more I drive it, the worse my index seems to get. Im probably enjoying myself in it too much! Im going for an eco index of 1!

Sport 1.2 on 16" upgrade alloys.

Average of 45mpg, commuting a total of 20 miles (the drive home is longer because I love driving it!) daily.

Best was 63mpg but it vanished after one night :bang: and worst was 33mpg when it was freezing but recovered to achieve 45mpg.

My average over 4,600 miles is 42.0mpg but that's mostly town driving and B roads to and from work. Since I've discovered some nice straight, long, A roads on an alternative route to work I'm hoping the figure will rise! The best I've ever had it to was 46mpg on a motorway trip.

1.2 Sport on 16" wheels 5500 miles

Spirited town and country lane driving 39mpg, relaxed driving late 40's early 50's (but very boring!)

Start stop city driving (and queueing) 37mpg

Not tried the Eco drive yet - don't know whether I wnat to be told how to drive it!

I also had bad fuel consumption that day at Bedford. I followed you a couple of times - that 500 looked great fun. I managed between 5 and 6 mpg. But then I was driving a 911 GT2 :)
