When the good lady traded in her Panda Sporting for the 500 1.2 Pop, I asked her if she would not prefer the 1.3M/jet, but no she said it was like the Panda noisy plus the sales person told her that the 1.2 mpg was not far away from the 1.3M/jet.

I told her he was talking bo**ocks.

Looks like I might have to eat my words, It was filled up last night and it worked out to 48.7mpg. Its not been out of town since we bought it and this was only its second tank of fuel. It is lower than the M/jet but not by that much, and i must admit its very quiet after the Panda.

Thats good news.

When we had a test drive in the 1.2 it did similar to that, and a lot more out of town. They're very good for what they are.

We're equally pleased with our 1.4 averaging 42mpg. On our last run to cornwall it did 46mpg over the entire holiday. Not brilliant, but still very acceptable!

I hope once it gets 2 or 3k unner its belt it shoud be better.

It's going to get a run down to the Lake District this week end so let see what it does on a run.

True we got good mpg from the M/jet engine in the Panda. One thing I did notice was not to put to much faith in what the computer told me, it was about 8mpg out. The biggest bonus is the low noise level I found the 500 and the Panda with the M/jet about the same for noise. To be honest i've driven trucks and tractors that are quieter......honest.

Our new 1.2 was delivered by Perrys (ie driven 180 miles up the M40/42/5/6 & 53) and the computer recorded over 56 average mpg

heres my best so far Photo0095.jpg (y) realy happy with it

i did this as an experiment realy,(see post above with pic) when i refuled and reset everything i drove very steady only just touching the throttle and changing up gears at 2500rpm so was in 5th by 35mph getting to 70 took a mile or so as i was letting the car build up speed very steadyly to get it to this figure i also used the instant consumption as a guide by trying not to dip below 35mpg. i will note that i couldn't drive this way all the time.

When mine was around 500 miles, we went from here to Kent, a distance of around 120 miles. Never went above 70mph and drove it fairly gently, never exceeding 3000rpm. Got exactly 50mpg by the time we got there. Its very easy to get high 40s like 47 or 48 and still have fun driving it. Between fill ups its not dropped below 44mpg.
Its actually more economical than my old Seicento Sporting which was a 1.1!

 Are diesels less fuel efficient when it's cold?

The reason for asking is that ever since downloading that darn ecodrive software I have been analysing each days journeys and one thing that really stands out is that when the missus drives to work in the morning that always shows a low score (average eco reading 46) but when she comes home at night it increases to 55-60ish.

Same trip in reverse but coming home in the afternoon, 3.30pm gets lots of traffic whereas in the morning, 6.30am no traffic and uses top gear on dual carriageway for most of the trip and doesn't exceed 50mph.

I can't believe that just using the headlights can be responsible and I always assumed (probably incorrectly) that although petrol engines overfuel when cold the compression/ignition engine was efficient from the outset.
