Just been offered 6.5k in p/x for my 1.2 lounge with 3k on the clock. I'm absolutely stunned. What a rip off!

No I damn well didn't! I thought they were a much sought after vehicle which was retaining its value. Obviously all sales hype.

A diesel micra ex demo. The Nissan man is absolutely astounded and was quite embarrassed calling me. He's still working on it. I thought it would be worth around 8k.

Cheapest on autotrader for a very bog standard Pop is 7K with 4K miles. I suppose you have to remember that If you paid say 9K for the car and then if you take the VAT off which the dealer sends to the taxman, the true value of the car is £ 7659.58.

Part ex prices are always shockingly low... have to ask why on earth do you want a Micra, they are not good at all. I had one for a year, loads of faults and the build was terrible... got rid for a new Panda. That Micra cost me around 9k and I got 6k after a year:(

:yeahthat: why go for less style less space and definately less resale value, and remember diesel costs +10p per liter so overall running costs will be nearly the same, you did well to get 12 for the shogun at the garage near me i could go and get a bmw x5 53 reg for £13,000. its the wrong time to be selling or even trading in a car with only 12 weeks to xmas !! and people are feeling a bit budget minded lately, hang on untill next year, btw i got £8,000 trade in value for my old 53reg v5 beetle, lol they were selling on autotrader for £5,000

Dont assume that this is all your 500 is worth.
Have a look at what your local Fiat dealerships are selling them for, take a bit off this and thats what you should aim for.
I have to say though that you surely cant be seriously considering a Micra are you?
My mates wife has one and its been in and out of the garage like a fiddlers elbow.

I've had 4 of them now and never had a day's problems with them and the diesel goes like sh!t off a shovel and is economical. I want a small economical car and not a 500! Had my fill of them from mechanical problems through to customer service at both the garage and head office.

Thats the biggest reason I would never buy a new model budget range car, depreciation hurts big time. Hope you get a better deal if you are determined to trade the 500 in but a car from any makers budget range should never be viewed, even remotely or hopefully as any sort of investment.

Buy used or ex-demo, let someone else take the depreciation hit I say.

Buying any new car (a few rare exceptions excluded) Is going to lose you money.

The more expensive, the more you lose. A friend works at a ferrari dealership, and another mutual friend was going to part/ex his range rover vogue, but something like £8k was lost overnight on the range rover when the new glasses guide came out.
