Just phoned my dealership in St. Helens...apparently they've been trying to ring me but they had the wrong mobile number!

Anyways the guy said my car was built and due to arrive in the UK 17/03/08, and if it gets transported by train I could pick it up within days from then!

I'm going down to the dealership today to pick my reg and actually pay for the car...

I have a 2006 Fiesta at the minute that I'm going to sell privately but he said Fiat could take care of it for me :S I told him how much I would be selling it for, maximum and minimum and he said they could take care of it obviously after looking at it.

But I don't know what to do, I know I'd probs get more money selling privately but do I want that hassle of having to sell it myself and not having a car for a couple of weeks?? Mucho confused???

I'm in same boat as you,got an 06 suzuki swift which I'm selling to buy the 500, the dealer has offered to part exchange but not given me a definate figure yet, but if I sell private will also be without a car!!!plus he said it will be less as he has to look at prices in say a couple of months not the price now??:confused:

Well, how I'm looking at it is I have got a definite minimum in my head of what I would go down to, my car is due in a few weeks so fingers crossed he won't bring depreciation into the part ex figure...

If he can't offer me a good deal for my car I'll just sell it privately, better the money being in my pocket...I might even consider waiting 'til I've got the 500 to sell my fiesta so I'm not 'car-less' :)

cool...well i'm going down later today to sort out my reg and possibly get a quote for part-ex, he sounded really good on the phone and I've read a couple of threads where people have thought they got a really good deal for part exchange so it's definitely worth looking into....saves a lot of hassle!

Just hoping he offers a good deal ;)

When I ordered my 500 Sport on the 2nd of February, my 2003 Streetka was valued and expectations were £1500 wide off the mark. However, we continued negioliating and agreed on it being narrowed by £700.

I am still running the Streetka having already agreed on a p/x price until I collect my 500 in early May.

I could have sold the Streetka privately but at that time there were 104 of them on eBay! What would be the USP of my car so I decided to lessen the hassle by part exchanging it.

Overall, I think a good deal knowing the majority of cars depreciate further as time go on.

I got offered a really poor amount for my peugeot convertible which the dealer insisted was the book price. I took it to a peugeot dealer and got offered almost £1000 more. You might get more for your fiesta if you take it to a ford dealer.

Yes they were fine. They did ask if I wanted to trade it in for a new one but I told them I'd had enough of peugeots and was getting a fiat so just wanted to sell it. They also were happy for me to keep it until the day my 500 arrived so I was only without a car for 4 hours.

It was in good condition with very low mileage for the year so I suppose that helped. Visiting a ford dealer will probably be worth a try.

I have my car ordered for Sept, and also have a car to sell, however i will bite the bullet and sell in June, as it will be summer and hopefully the bright sunshine will rub off onto a prospective buyer and I will get my asking price. :D

My current car will be the only car I will be really sorry to see go,( a Fabia vRS, remapped to 180 BHP and 300lb/ft torque) I want to sell well before the 500 arrives so I dont change my mind..

Altho I will have access to a 57 plate Smart Pulse before the 500 arrives :yum:

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

well...I went to the Fiat dealer today and they seriously under valued my car, saying they were going by the book value, when I drove out the dealer I saw a 2004 clio, mine's a 2006 fiesta, up for the same price they were offering me!!

So...decision made, I'm going to sell it privately.

Not too sure about going to a Ford dealer, I'm a bit of a chicken, 'cos they're there to sell cars so I'd feel a bit stupid trying to sell my car to them!

You expecting to get retail money for your trade in? :)
Even the post prep margin in a car isn't profit. Book price isn't how much you can rob a car for. :)

all fiat dealers i have been to have seriously under valued my Ford px.

for us the mear consumer you can get 4 valuations on the internet:
Whatcar
Wisebuyers
Parkers
Glass's (have to pay about 3 quid)

they missed the average 'trade in' of the above by approx £1k, and that was 4 dealers. My car is in mint condition with low mileage and very desirable spec, gave up in the end!

Parkers is a joke book not a valuation guide. ;)
Cap and glasses are the ones to look at.

ahh the mystical CAP guide, that they all mention, but no-one will show you..buts allegedly miles away from Glass's...

We usually print it out and show the customer.

that is very good of you, how it should be done.

however always find it funny that the dealer insists his book is the king! why shouldn't mine be?

for years and years this was always Glass's, then they invented the internet and glass's let the old consumer get a valuation for a small price.. behold the industry finds a new bible, CAP!
