Hi Guys,
I have a reoccurring issue with my valve train, the nuts keep coming loose. I have replaced the standard nuts with nylock nuts and found one of the nuts has loosened a wee bit enough the that the rockers are noisy, i have now a double nut on them to lock them and see how it go’s nxt couple of days anyone had issue like this.. TIA

I would suggest that you purchase a set of adjusters (complete with nuts). If the nuts keep loosening to the degree that you say they are, I would think that the threads on the adjusters are knackered!

I seem to have misunderstood which nuts were coming loose---I had assumed that it was the ADJUSTING nuts, hence my suggestion. The early 500s did have a habit of a rocker-shaft stud slowly pulling out of the head; I have run into this a couple of times, and both times the use of the 'self-tapping' inserts was required
If it is not too bad, one way, as Peter suggested, is to remove the stud, clean up the threads on both the stud and in the head, and then screw the stud back in (use the 'double-nut' system) with lock-tite on the thread into the head.
If the thread in the head is bad, the only good way to repair the thread is to fit one of the 'self-tapping'steel inserts into the head. This CAN be done in-situ, but due to the amount of swarf created(from drilling the stud hole to the correct size for the insert) I would suggest that the job is done with the head removed. However, try Peter's method first and see how it goes.

Hi Hobbler,
The valve train studs one of them had pulled out and had
previously been heli coiled so i was stuffed. I had to drill out the standard 8 mm studs to 10 mm to fit new hi tensile studs and machine out the valve train shaft to accept the 10 mm studs. With all the machining done and v train back in place i fitted new nord washers and new torque nuts and double locked them so for so good. Thanks guys for all your input.
