When I see rare original parts for sale on eBay I often place a bid on them. The front badge on my car is very patinated but it is the 51 year old original. There might come a day when Murf gets another makover and then I might want to fit shiny parts on him; but I would prefer these to be genuine.
The shiny new badge arrived; it had been sold with good provenance and in good faith, so no problem there. But when I compared it with the original there were some differences.
1. The red FIAT badge in the centre is integral with the plastic moulding rather than a separately formed piece bonded on.
2. The dimensions of the bars on the "grille" part are quite different..generally narrower.
3. There are no traces of a makers name or location.
It's possible that there were manufacturing changes during the production of the 500F which meant changes in the construction or supplier of the emblem. But I'm a pedant (that's not something illegal) and these observations may be petty, but I hate anything which unnecessarily takes away from the genuine originality car; so I won't be fitting it. There may be a future restoration where it will be appropriate. But if anyone has any images of the same item which they know to be a repro and can post it here for comparison it would be appreciated
