I am aware how much the issue of the different heater outlet elbow/side-mounted starter-motor conflict has been discussed here. But I would appreciate having a definitive, single-syllable answer as to whether, possibly with a squeeze but no actual modification, the 650 engine will connect to the heater duct on the car if I swap the elbowed cowling for one off a 500.
ie. so as not to waste anyones' time in answering although expansive replies will be gratefully received:

My own personal Everest?:)
I have become a bit confused and not sure if I have to obtain a 126 heater duct as mounted under the car to align with the 650 cowling, or if simply fitting the one off a 500 overcomes that.
Maybe the 500 one is pointless as although it fits OK, the orientation of the heater elbow sends connecting pipe on a collision course with the starter?:bang:

I have read your question Peter a bit more carefully---which exhaust are you fitting? the 500 and 126 exhausts are slightly different in down-pipe lead and shape, especially the rear pipe, and this may effect the positioning of the hose (from the engine across to the car-mounted ducting). There is a possibility that I will have a spare '126' thermostat housing---would you be interested in it? As far as I am aware, the car-mounted ducting does NOT have to be changed, irrespective of which thermostat housing you fit. It might also matter which starter you have fitted. I have a 'cable-pull' starter and a 126 housing on my current engine (my '695' engine will be using a Panda30 head and appropriate cowling), and yes, the ducting is close but so far, I have had no problem with my installation.

My "Yes/No" thing has gone for a Burton now, hasn't it?:D:D:D
I have the choice of both cowlings already Tom, but thanks for the potential offer.(y)
It's obvious that one of my bigger capacity engines has been used on a 500 already and it has a 500 cowling. I have the side-mounted, pull-starter
There's only one way to find out...........no, not the Harry Hill way; I'll try one and if it hits problems I will go with the other. I just wanted a bit of certainty to start with the most likely winner and avoid extra work.
