Hi Folks

Can anyone confirm the route of the speedo cable through the car?

Especially where it passes through the bonnet area (which hole) into the back of the speedo?

But also where it runs through the centre of the car.

Doesn't seen to show this in the manuals. Thanks.

After seeing your post i looked at the photos of before and after my restauration and it seems i've got mine crossed over the fuel pipe goes through the body at the bottom right hand corner of the fuel tank where according to my original photos that's where the speedo cable goes.

For a RHD this is what I can give you.

Under bonnet photo is a no brainer. It is the cable that runs across the left hand edge of the fuel tank and through a grommet near the tank bracket.

Second photo shows the footwell. You can see the cable running 'behind' the pedal and then into the tunnel. Clamped along the way under one of the black sleeved flexible tabs.

Third photo shows where it exits from the bottom of the car. Unfortunately the speedo cable was removed before I took this photo but it exits alongside the choke cable (number 3).

Knowing where it comes out at the back and goes in from the front gives you an indication on where the cable runs in the tunnel. In reality I think it just runs down the left hand side of the tunnel. There are a number of tabs that can be used to support it (and other) cables.

For reference, these are the other cables that come out under the car.

Cables from the central tunnel. From L(eftish ) to R (from memory).
1) Main brake line running left to the aluminium ‘T’ junction. (Fed from rear)
2) Flexible fuel line going to aluminium section. (Fed from inside)
3) Choke cable and Speedo (Speedo cable is not in photo)
4) Solid tube for throttle . (Fed from Rear)
5) Solid tube for the clutch cable. (Fed from rear)
6) Handbrake cable (to left brake) (Fed from Inside)
7) Handbrake cable (to right brake) (Fed from inside)
8) Gear lever extension. (Fed from Inside)
9) Starter cable. (Fed from Inside)
10) Positive lead from the battery. Can’t see the exit but you can see the cable disappearing off to the top right of the picture. (Fed from inside)

Throttle and choke sleeves are tied together by a small bracket that then screws to the bottom of the chassis. Need to do this before motor goes in I think. Those two cables then pass through a large hole cut in the fixed shield in the engine bay.

Aluminium fuel line passes through the smaller hole to the left of that. Both holes need to have grommets.

Think this is all correct, it looks like the choke cable comes through a huge hole, but like the Fuel/Brake lines, the hole is used to pass the hand brake cable through first. Have a look at the hand brake cable and all will become clear.

Hi Tim,

I can't show you the route through the cabin as its under the Dynamat which is under the carpet. I can show you the route out of the engine/gearbox compartment and which hole it goes through in the front compartment.

Ignore the second cable in front of the speedo cable - I fitted it a while ago for a cable driven tachometer.

Hope this helps,
Chris
