My new speedo cable only lasted about 40 miles before the internal wire was snapped... Can i confirm whether a 500F with a 126 engine needs a speedo cable for the D F L or for the R-126? Couldn't find much info on this. I suspect it's the former but not 100% sure...!

If there is a difference, I'm not sure why, as you can happily use a pre 500R cable on a 126 box installed into a 500L or 500F.

not knowing much about 126's, it might be a case of the 126 has a different fitting on the dash. The L model has a screw on connector. did the 126 change?

I have a 500L dash and 126 gearbox
my original 1971 500L speedo cable fits & works fine

Perfect! Thanks I will order a 500f l one then. For some reason they are somehow different to the 500r and 126 but as pointed out it may just be a different speedo fitting rather than anything on the transmission end! Cheers
