took my standard 500 engine to bits today to rebuild it but got stuck once it came to taking off the crankshaft pulley? removed the 6 bolts on the front face then couldn't get it off. Is it just them bolts that hold it on?
Long time since I worked on these engines but I seem to remember there was a small lug on the aluminium centrifugal oil filter cover that provides enough space between the cover and the crankshaft pulley to get a screwdriver in to lever it off.
If any of you '500' guys haven't got it already, here's a link to the original Fiat 500 repair data manual. It's in Italian but may be useful.
seem to remember thinking this oil filter doesn't work very well untill I realised that some of the alluminium was dirt and needed a stanley knife to cut it out, was pretty impressed after that!!! the exchange crank was about £6. 10 bob then then I was REALLY impressed about 1970
