Hello

I have a G reg mk2 Uno 45 FIRE 999cc engine and its a Carb model and it is surfering from a few problems

1. Pulls away very slowly
2. Will Not go over 50MPH

I have some history with it as its always had these problems since it was purchased

I have checked the Vacume Unit by blowing down it and its working also this was replaced in 2001 also at the same time the Distrubtor was Removed and striped down then Cleaned out and free off internal components it says on the invoice.

Just over 1 year later the Distributor was changed for a Second hand unit.

Now i think it can not be the Distributor but what does the ECU do thats ontop of the distributor in the Carb models could this be causing the problem? also any other suggestions to what it could be

If this problem isn't fixed by end of May then i think it will be going to the Scrapyard in the sky [xx(];)

Thanks for any help

Michael

The problem seems to be greatB)...are you sure the timing's correct? After this I'd check oil and water levels to see if there's something connected to a faulty head gasket...the last thought I have is about the locked sliding calipers...I had this problem on my Renault 5 and one of the symptoms was a reduced top speed, together with brakes overheating[:0].

Passion has neither brands nor models!

La passione non ha nè marche nè modelli!
(Quite happy dark met. blue Panda driver!)

I had problems with the chip that is on the distributor, so i ripped it off and placed it away from the engine... No problems since then
I have a catalytic 91 model but the ignition is the same (?)
Check my page www.geocities.com/djgr84/FiatWiring.jpg (igonre the messege :)

you should type the link i gave you and not click on it because geocities doesn't allow links

If it's always had these problems, and there has been work done on the distributor which didn't fix it, you'll probably have to look elsewhere.

I don't know what tools you have access to, but checking the following things out (listed in no specific order) should give clues to the problem:

how open the throttle is when the accelerator is to the floor.
compression test on all cylinders.
inlet manifold vacuum (takes some interpreting, as it's dynamic, but can tell a lot about how happy an engine is).
fuel pressure at the carb.
fuel level in the carb float chamber.
condition of jets in the carb.
cam belt timing.

Plus binding brakes, as mentioned above..

You could also check the effectiveness/power of the spark with a tester which is a sort of calibrated, and variable, gap: see how many Kv you have, before you start modifying the distributor:)
