I Thought i'd post up a thread as to what has been happening with the my uno.

Basically i bought it back in october for the small sum of £300 with a knackered waterpump and blown Head gasket.

It was in a bit of a sorry state, no springs in the back so it was stupidly low and dangerous to drive, a bodged manual fan switch so the fan wouldnt kick in automatically and generally not in a good state.

Oil was mayo'd

It was a struggle to take the cylinder head off there was water dripping everywhere from the waterpump but i eventually did it. After Taking the Head off The head gasket had definatly gone,

I got round to getting rid of the horrible standard wheels and fitting my OZ super Leggeras with brand new Toyo Proxy TR-1's 194/45/15.

After a 7 Hour Drive to Devon to meet Rob and I bought a used turbo and gearbox from him, The turbo was to replace my smokey one which drank the oil i put into it.

I had the head skimmed as it had warped from over heating, and bolted it on with a new gasket, waterpump and headbolts.

After spending a few more hours its starting to look a lot better know.

I just need to get another alternator belt as i was sold one which was too short! and a new rocker cover gasket.

I'm having to get a friend of a friend to come round and sort out the shims for me as they all fell out when it was taken apart and i dont know which way round they go :(

but either way it should all be sorted soon and running :)

oh and i tinted the windows too, fitted my digital dash and the much better mk1 steering wheel

Hey man.

How much did you pay for the turbo and gearbox? Rob bought those off me, he said he wanted them as spares, so I sold em to him for 20 quid...

Oh right, I was thinking he made a huge profit on em =)
Hope they do you well.

Sorry man I don't think I have an Uno 'manual anymore, I have one in PDF format on my pc, however. Not sure how complete it is but I'll have a scan through and see what I can find.

Well, for the 1301cc engine (doesn't specify if it's turbo or not...) it says...

Stage 1 -> 20NM / 15LBft
Stage 2 -> 40NM / 30LBft
Stage 3 -> turn through 90 degree angle
Stage 4 - > turn through 90 degree angle

Guessing that's a sequence.

In revisions, which I think is related to the turbo engine, it says "refer to specifications", so i'm guessing those are the right trorques...

As for order of bolts to be tighened in...

9 5 1 3 7
8 4 2 6 10

and for lower bolts

3 2 1 4

Those are for the 1301cc engine. Now it says to look in specifications for torque, and all I can find are my aforementioned figures. It also says to look in "this chapter", and I can find those settings, which apply to 1301cc and 1108cc engines, and ones for the 903cc engine...

Not very comprehensive. I'm sure you can find a copy of the Haynes Manual on google if you're being cautious.

Hi Guys

I posted up all torque settings from the Porter manual ages ago :)

https://www.fiatforum.com/showpost.php?p=502502&postcount=5

Not really clear for the Turbo so not much help.

My trusted Orange Haynes Manual says

Cylinder Head Bolts M10
Stage 1 = 40 Nm (30 lbf ft)
Stage 2 + 90 deg
Satge 3 + 90 deg.

Same sequence as above by Dragyth.

AND
Cylinder Head Bolts M8
30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

Good work so far Oldskool.

Would you consider passing on your bust Turbo? Mine is in bits at the moment. I made a right mess unnecessarily disassembling the gas side . Will need 6 bolts extracting

Regards All,
Louie Bee

spent 3 hours today and 5 hours yesterday working on the car,

it runs :) drove it up and down the street and works fine, it does have a few problems, it splutters when it hits about 5 psi, and it idles far too high :(

i forgot to label up the plugs for the injectors so i just put them back on guessing which one's were which.

the cam case gasket needs replacing as it is leaking oil out, i have ordered one just gotta wait til saturday, not happy as i've gotta take the cambelt off again!

the metal waterpipe from the waterpump is leaking coolant, the dash is showing no oil pressure, i think its the sender as i had to solder the broken wire back on which somehow had snapped off.

I'm nearly there just need to sort out the problems with it, the main things are done, it runs and drives so i'm not far away now.

All coming along sweetly mate, glad that box and turbo came to use bud... oh did you use my head gasket i gave you....
Id check that oil pressure out mate just incase they drove it with the head gasket gone for ages and cooked the block, easy way to check is to take off the oil cap while it is running and you should see oil being thrown up..

Also make sure the turbo has got oil feed, disconnect the coil lead so it wont run and take off the turbo drain pipe, crank the engine over and check that oil is coming out of the drain.
After all that turbo was good and you dont wanna destroy it lol, just hope its that wire hey... :worship:

been a while since i updated this thread but the car is now on the road tax tested and insured. no problems with it now everything has been done to it. i was thinking of having it resprayed but its come up so nicely with a polish i'm not going to take it any further thats up to the new owner whoever buys it.

heres some new pictures of it.
