Re: UT Restoration, New Thread. UPDATED 07/07/08 GEARBOX BACK ON AND NEARLY READY TO

right, been to windsor for a long weekend, and therefore not done any more lol!

But, last thursday, matt came down to my garage to give me a hand but unfortunatly, i'm not getting a spark :( so after 3 hours af trying to sort it out and find the problem, we gave it up as a bad job :(

but.......the auto electrician is coming out tomoz morning (thursday) to sort it out for me and get it back up and running, and wire up my fuel cell sender unit so it registers on the standard fuel guage on the UT clocks :D so no need for an aftermarket guage :) yay!

then its a case of running it up to temp, then changing the oil and filter, then bleed the clutch and job done ;)

well, bad news from the auto electrician!

he came and checked a few things and found my coil dead! ordered a new coil but we werent sure its the right one, it didnt work :( So, now ive got another coil, hopefully the correct one, ready to fit which i havent had time yet! hoping once ive fitted this we're ready to go!!!

so, to keep myself ammused, i made some gear linkages!

On the UT, they tend to wear out about the 50 - 60k mark and therefore are all pretty much knackered nowdays! unfortunatly, theyre not available from fiat anymore, but IF they have old stock, they come out at about £150+ for the pair!!! And even then they'll eventually wear out again!

Mine were currently being held on by Zip ties as i didnt have a clue how to get new ones or get around the problem! Zip ties werent the best option and were deffo not gonna last much longer lol :p

so, with a little help from a lad called Ant on Turbo Collective, he showed me how to make some 'Rally' spec linkages. These are the sort of thing used on rally cars and race cars alike.

Using Rose Joints, some threaded bar for adjustment, and a few bolts and washers i came up with these ;)

I used high quality Rose Joints, self lubricating and have bronze liners. They also have a grease nipple and are fully service able! :D

As you can see, a much better solution to the zip ties lol (y)

Heres a couple of them fitted

Soon as id fitted them i jumped into the drivers seat and tried going through the gears! What can i say!!! Gone is all the wallowing around gear stick! gone is the nasty "guess the gear" changes, its now VERY presice, VERY tight and feels solid as a rock! :D :D :D :D

one of the best mods ive done! gonna be hard getting used to having such a perfect gear change! ever since ive had my UT, its always been crap! lol

awesome. (y)

i saw about the electrical problems, but having never done much on a car with coils and dizzy and amplifiers etc (instead of just coil packs) - i didnt really have much to advise with!

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread. UPDATED 21/07/08 NEW CUSTOM MADE RALLY SPEC LINKAGES

nice work with the linkages, you need a blue peter badge now lol. what was the differnce in price with the home made jobbies compared to the fiat ones?

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread. UPDATED 21/07/08 NEW CUSTOM MADE RALLY SPEC LINKAGES

I wonder... Tipo's gear changes are a bit wobbly... perhaps a new set of linkages might tighten things up if it uses the same system as this - if not then off to Fiat :(

Looks good.

as i said, these are Genuine and i've been looking for a while for them. I know u can get non genuine items easily, but i'm fussy ;)

These will be fitted after the respray as the current headlights will let the car down big time as theyre looking rather old now!

Just need to find a d/s headlight now and i'm sorted for lights :D

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread. UPDATED 21/07/08 NEW CUSTOM MADE RALLY SPEC LINKAGES

some people are just too fussy :p headlight looks nice and shiney!

take them apart and spray the silver bits that arent part of the main reflective bit black, smoked headlights will look good on the UT

could always do it with the old ones incase it doesnt work/you break something.

Hiya! just poped over from the barchetta section and found your brembo mod very interesting. Well done.

A little help or guidence is needed as i would like to do this mod to my B.

Can you tell me if this would work, I,m running 17" kahn rsv alloys at the mo.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. KC

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 11/07/06*

yeah it will you might need the bracket thou. dont worry about wheel size if you use the fiat coupe brembos you will be fine becuase coupes only run 16" wheels

Ah! Beware the ofset though! Coupes can only fit a few types of alloy on because they rub against the brembos.
