doesn't sound odd but this is a little, i was driving home tonight when my oil light came on... that after a min or two it went off again?!?! what should i do and why did this happen? the only change i have made is i added the filter box hose which was missing...

on another note i'm really enjoying my car but it really seems to lack acceleration at higher speeds :D

Cheers,

It is probably the connection of the oil sensor, maybe is a bit lose. or it might be your oil pump thath stopped working for a moment wich i find it a bit extreme.

My grandads version of fixing an oil pressure problem was to disconnect the warning light :bang: So now its a case of trying to nurse it back to health a bit at a time.
There may be a bad connection to the Oil sender, but what is the Oil like? Is it nice and clean or black bright? There may be a blocked oil pipe inside the engine stopping oil flowing to say the cam, which shouldn’t be run dry. Luke??

i have a similar problem, apart from when it comes on it either - comes on for a breif moment or - goes out when the engine is revved. the oil is full so it isnt that.

also find it quite amusing when it comes on, but thats me being weird :p

i had this problem on mine, except light was on all the time. Mine was due to cruddy oil, blocked feeder pipe, blocked channels to sump from head, and blocked sender pipe. All in all, it was very poorly. The oil pump is just a pair of orbital cogs and will most likely be fine.

Your problem is just a faulty switch or the wire is broken/has a loose connection. Check the terminal, its at the back of the engine on the drivers side IIRC. Could be on the front. Make sure its not corroded. Also check the wire to see if there is any breaks in the cable.

If its an oil pressure problem, its most likely to be when you first start up the engine rather than when it warms up.

BUT if it is an oil pressure problem, DO NOT run the car. If you have low pressure, your cam wont get any oil so you can wave goodbye to it. You could run the car with the cam cover off to see if its getting oil ok and consistantly, but inadvisable if you dont know what you're doing as theres a possibility you could break something and cause all sorts of oil leaks/problems.

Think thats everything.

from what i recall it was only on for a couple of hundred meters if that, can on as i approched a round about and went off after i left and was gonig up the road.

could it of just been i breaked hard? i dont remember doing so but you never know.

Your oil pressure wont drop low enough to set the warning light on if you brake hard. could just be the wire is playing up - best thing to do is check as ive said :)
