Re: Pas Sensation Vs Lowering?

Good comments there!

There was never an Uno with PAS, sorry I think in my message I implied that there was, when I said that "in old cars like the Uno" <there can be PAS problems> - I really meant "in cars the same age as the Uno"...

Anyway, yeah, it would be nice if the brakes had a bit more assistance but otherwise, the Uno is nice to drive.

Today I drove a Subaru SVX. What a car! 3.3 litres of flat-six power... Italian design by Guigaro (designer of the Uno!)... big inside but actually comfortable and 'sporty'... ride quality pretty good (not perfect) - but the one thing I didn't like was the steering (power assisted of course!) It just seemed a bit 'dead', the weighting would fluctuate during small corrections and felt really odd.

In an Uno, you have this feeling of speed as you steady the beast with delicate balance, but with the SVX (going rather faster) it didn't feel like I was 'balanced' as much as merely shoving the wheels a bit this way, a bit that way... Probably doesn't help that the tyres are 225-sized, for goodness sakes!

"Luke, seriously, I used to think like you in that PAS was only for elderly people and weak women. However, having all the experience of both makes me feel that although the strength isn't a problem it's the speed of quick turning etc."

I like that one, The Negotiator... you've had all the experience of both elderly people and weak women? LOL :)

Uno PAS

Ok Ok - The problem when we start picking faults with others is once we start it’s hard to stop.

Eventually someone will be picking faults with you – remember we'll probably be old one day and the boot will be on the other foot. lol.

Keeping to the topic, can anyone compare Uno driving with and without PAS

I could be the first? lol.
Regards All,

i think like it's been said before, it is a very light and nimble car, when i had the 45s on standard (almost bicycle wheels) there was almost no effort in turning the wheels, which was a little disconcerting on the motorway

a 70sx on standard wheels was also quite light, and felt quite good with 13" turbo alloys

the turbo on 13 x 5.5 alloys was just as quick, the slightly fatter tyres offset by the quicker rack

when i changed the wheels to 15 x 6.5 with 45 section tyres, i really only noticed the change in effort at low speed manouvering ie: parking in tight spots

I think that you mechanic was referring to the fact that the Mk II 1.4 ie engine is the same as in the Tipo 1.4 ie and that has power steering so you could transfer the stuff across. Agree its not needed most times, but when your running wider tyres ie 175/185's then parking can become a more like a gym workout.

Cheers

Matt
