OK - I can give it a best guess based on similar-aged FIATs like the Brava/Bravo that have air conditioning (I haven't seen this part on an Uno because I haven't seen an Uno with air conditioning).

So assuming your Uno has air conditioning, the purpose of the motor is to close the fresh-air intake flap when you push the 'recirculate' button (outline of car with loop-arrow within it).

The motor has quite a crude control system. It runs until it strikes a resistance, and then a simple electronic circuit switches it off. Therefore, if the link falls off the flap, or breaks, the motor will run all the time. It should reverse direction when you push the recirculate button a second time (to pop it 'out' and turn recirculate off).

As to where the motor goes, my guess would be behind the glovebox... though I'm clutching at straws! It will be on the air intake of the air conditioning evaporator (the cold radiator), near the pollen filter (if there is one).

Hope this helps at least somewhat. Incidentally, if parts are broken, I think it's acceptable to disconnect the motor wires and tape the air intake flap in the 'fresh air' (open) position.

MEANWHILE... there is another possibility (am I allowed a second guess? :)). Some Mk2 Unos have an 'automatic temperature control' system - does yours? (This may be fitted without air conditioning). It says "Automatic Temperature Control" on the heater control fascia, and the temperature dial is calibrated in degrees C.

If so, that motor may be the one that operates the water valve. It has a sophisticated control system that includes temperature sensors. Otherwise, similar advice to that above applies - if you turn the temperature dial, that should affect the motor's direction.

I think you need to look for a disconnected push-pull cable (looks similar to a choke cable) which will be near the right end of the heater matrix under the dash. Where you are holding the device certainly looks like the right place for it.

Cheers,
-Alex

Thank U Alex
Thank u for your excelent description on the topic! (y)
You are right its a motor to open some valve, yes my 1999 uno is having AC. yestarday i tried to turn the knob of air flow distribution control (Windscreen , towards Passenger , etc..) when I turn this knob the motor reverses the direction and vice versa. so sure it is of air distribution valve's . Now I need to remove the cover under the steering and AC unit, If you have photograph of the removed AC unit please forward its aslo,

Tis part is used to open the flaps of ac vent whenever you change the pos of the knob
