I have a ulysse 2.0 jtd 04 plate, i'm a taxi driver and while driving round city all day, car is great, stopping and starting all the time no problems. When i go on long journey's after about 40 / 50 miles i lose alot of power (foot to floor and nothing) then after about 5 / 10 sec i get a surge of power all at once, it has baffled me, its been on computer and all codes are ok. I have noticed also that the only way to correct the problem is to turn of and restart the car, then it seem fine again for another 40 / 50 miles (only guessing on miles):bang:

Please help if possible

Hi,

Is the engine management light coming on or do you get the dreaded anti pollution faulty message on the display? I had the same problem but with the above errors displayed. Mine would do about 70/100 miles on motorway before the power loss and sometimes it would take days for full power to return. Ended up with a new turbo as they could not locate the fault.

Mine is doing this too, I believe it's a turbo fault, mines going in Tuesday for a new one. I will let you know if it cures the fault :)

Hi again

No management faults, but yes the dreaded anti polution fault occasionaly, fitting new air flow meter tomorrow, and getting egr valve checked and cleaned soon.

We had a new air flow meter fitted initially, and it didn't stop the fault codes appearing, so turbo it is

Well we had the new turbo fitted and it didn't solve the problem, then it did, then it didn't then it did again !!!!
Basically the engine management light goes on and off well it feels like it, it still bleeps and comes up with anti-pollution filter fault but doesn't seem to go into limp mode for more that a couple of minutes and then it will just clear itself and be fine for days on end !!!
Confused me too !

Dave did they actually check or replace the anti pollution filter?
Sounds to me like this is actually blocked. The new turbo maybe improving the exhaust flow and that's why it's different.

The anti pollution filter is actually a deliberate blockage in the exhaust and it's supposed to collect soot and that soot is burnt off every now and then. But if you do a lot of slow driving or short runs it may never get a chance to burn off and will clog up.
There's a pressure monitor that measures the pressure difference across that filter and if it reads to high a difference it triggers the warning.
Sounds to me like these problems maybe related to that.

Well, so sort of fixed. On mine they replaced the Turbo boost valve, so they say and this had no effect, it actually came out of the garage worst than it went in, the fiat tech then went on holiday, and i got the renault guy to have a look as i was not too happy with them, he found a split in the pipe from the intercooler apparently, he replaced it at a cost of £25.00 labour free, it solved the problem, now waiting to hear bk from them in reference fitting a part that was not needed.

Confusion here between EGR and DPF, most likely EGR needs a clean out or replacement.

I had this around my DPF problem time (after it was done!)
After 4 months dealers still hadnt fixed it (even with an open cheque book from Fiat UK.) They did 3 box changes: it was dropping power to around 200 revs and then piling in totally randomly: no errors showing. It was like having a random Nitrox kit !
Took it to local Citroen dealers who fixed it that day ! (Even told me that I had the problem: which Fiat denied - despite the video evidence!) They wouldnt even come out in the car.
Turned out it was a switch in the Turbo (one of the little mushroom affairs that dangles in the top of teh engine on the 2.2) I had kinda worked this ourt myself by then as the Turbo wasnt whistling... I have now abandoned my Fiat Dealer in favour of the Citroen dealer: unfortunately my local mega dealer has just taken over the Pug dealership - so I have to go Citroen: otherwise I'd say - go PSA - Fiat dont know what they're doing with the Ulysse !
