DIY Remap ...

Here's an update, it works. :D

Connected the cable to the car and my laptop.
Asked the software to detect my ECU, it did.
Asked the software to read my ECU, it did, and saved a copy of the data to my desktop.

I've done it 3 times now and successfully downloaded the data from my ECU and saved a copy.

Haven't tried to upload a new map to it yet as I won't have the new MAP untill Tuesday next week.

I've attached the User Guide to the post, PDF format.

now whack it on a good rolling road and check fueling through out the rev range

a lad on the mg forum is sending me a map this evening :D

Alex, any chance you could send me a copy of the Punto MAP you get?

I plan to collect as many standard and tuned MAPs as I can. If there's anyone in 30 mile radius of Wolverhampton that is willing to let me have a copy of their cars MAP please let me know. I'll check and see if your car is on the compatible list, if it is I'll arrange a time and place.

Why Dave?
I know the MAP is of the highest quality. It turned a Stilo 1.9 JTD(115bhp) into a Stilo 1.9 JTD(147bhp) fire breathing monster. As the car I having it from is identical to my own I plan to use it like any other generic MAP. I'll have the MAP tomorrow evening(Monday 11th) but not sure I'll have the time to try it untill Tuesday. I'll let you all know how things go as soon as I get chance to try it.

it will put skeptics (?) mind at rest, then we are on a winner

a lot of the door step mappers maps have seemed fine until rolling roaded

The car I'm taking the MAP from was tuned on a rolling road. I think all cars on a rolling road are mapped the same way, by installing a generic MAP then spending a few hours tweaking it to give the best possible results for the car(I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

If I do put it on a rolling road, what sort of things should I be looking for?

Had another play with it this evening.

Took about 2 seconds to detect the ECU, first pic.
Took about 80 seconds to read the ECU and save a copy to the desktop, second pic.
Took about 40 seconds to erase the MAP data before taking another 7 seconds to reinstall it, third pic.

Car still runs just as it did before so I guess I'm ready to try the tuned MAP tomorrow.

Ok, another update.

Picked up the MAP earlier and got a friend to check it for me. The hardware and software numbers matched and the file was exactly the same size as my standard MAP, friend said he was sure it wouldn't mess up my ECU so we tried installing the MAP.

Everything went to plan, it installed perfectly. So I turned the ignition on and waited for it to do its Checks.

Error - "CHECK VEHICLE PROTECTION SYSTEM"

I guess the imobiliser data is stored in the ECU, when I flashed it I must have over written it.

I then reinstalled my original MAP just to make sure everything was ok.

Car started perfectly.

So I'm sure the cable and software did its job, but the new MAP leaves me with the immobiliser light on and a "CHECK VEHICLE PROTECTION SYSTEM" displayed in the LCD on the dash.

Could the solution be as simple as recoding the transponder in my key so the new MAP has the correct code and allows the engine to start?

Ok, update.

I decided I could not create the MAP myself so I arranged for someone else to do it for me, charged me £80.

I installed the MAP myself and WOW what a difference.

The guy has offered to remap any standard MAP I can send him for £80. So if any of you guys are interested let me know.

Can you not just sell on the map you had? Get your money back?

The Vin, hardware and software numbers must be the same or the MAP is useless. The chances of another vehicle being exactly the same as mine is very slim.

Its much easier to use the original MAP and load in a generic upgrade.

I now have 3 MAPs(thanks Chris), my standard MAP, a moderate MAP and a UMPH! MAP(I like this one). I can load any one of them any time I want and it only cost £80.

The offer is still open but the person suppling the new map file has changed and so has the price, its now £120. I'll put you directly in touch with him, pay him via PayPal, you email your file to him, he emails it back to you. He's able to tweak it if needed too.

If you live near Wolverhampton your welcome to use my cables, laptop, internet etc..
