Hi ,
i am planing to buy Fiat tipo 1.6 ,can someone pls help me and say what to watch while choosing one for me....any good advices???
Hope you will help me

watch out for the suspension fork arm thingys (soz for the non techincal name as its escaped me at this moment in time)...

my made had a tipo, but the lower arm snapped when on a dual carrage way. was nasty to say the least. fortunately he was fine. Just it never picked up on the MOT test which was only about 2 months old.

Should be fine, just be carefull. Thats about the extent of my knowledge with the tipo :)

If you want my advice, dont buy one! :bang:

If you still want one, make sure its at the very top of your budget, anything less, will be nothing but trouble - as with any car!

But, theres not alot to look out for as such, but check for rust in the obvious places, bodywork should be fine, as it is galvanised.
If it has the digital dash, test all of the controls, as some of the bulbs kinda 'stick on' ie handbrake light and oil, sometimes the rear defroster. Dont worry if the rear wiper doesnt work, Its just the rod seized.
Also, get an injection version, the carbs on them are an absolute waste of time!

Good luck!

Why do you say not to buy one?

I have just done so and it seems pretty good, except for suspect fuel consumption...

Any particular things other than what you have said?

(Mine's a 53KMiles, 1.6S IE - immaculate in all areas, as far as I can see)

Well done, 53K isnt bad! What year is it?

The only reason for me saying that is because mine has been nothing but trouble (n) :bang: ! Lets hope yours serves you well! They are relatively simple cars anyway.

Fuel consumption: Have you checked the fuel gauge - sometimes these fail or trick you into thinking you have less fuel than you actually have, or, see if the fuel mixture is correct - whip out a few of the plugs and check them - if they are dry, black and sooty, you know its the fuel mixture.
As before, nothing major goes wrong unless they have had a hard life, just keep services up to date, and you should be fine!

all the best

It is a K reg - 1992.

Nothing wrong with the fuel guage, as far as I can tell...

Just passed 135Mi and it has dipped below half way - time for some TLC on the weekend, I think.

Thanks for the reply..

Mike
