PLease do you know if a pair of Mk1 front calipers will fit a non ABS Mk2 ? I think the Mk2 catalogue talked about uprated brakes and eper shows different part numbers but would they fit anyway? I'm ignorant of the brake set up and won't be doing the work and would appreciate any advice you can give. Can I tell if they are compatible by comparing one on the car with one in my hand are there hidden complications???

Thanks

Jonti

HELLCAT you are 'Mr Brakes' Yes - the turbobanger. It is flies down the M1 at high speeds BUT CANNOT STOP.

I'm confused about what parts "brakes" comprises...

(1) To do the Bravo upgrade do you mean that I can simply get bravo jtd calipers or are there other parts that I need to get to do the Bravo conversion (preferably getting as little as possible !) What is the list?

Plus (2) will Bravo handbrake adjusters fit the back as they are trashed as well?

Thanks

Dunno about the rears - I never did get along with drum brakes!

Fronts... you need:

calipers with their hangers.
discs.
pads.

you can get the parts from any 1.9TD/JTD or 1.8 or 1.6 (must be the auto - the 1.6 manual has smaller brakes) marea, bravo, brava.

I did the same on my TD. Made it much easier on the brakes when up in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Previously after the first few hard stops you would have no brakes until they cooled... vented disks perform so much better.

Ok I've got pads, vented discs, calipers and carriers from a Brava TD 72k miles on the way from Abarelli. £65 + P+P seems very reasonable for this lot assuming they're all in the condition I was promised.

***Rosedale Chimney Bank*** will be the test location (1 in 3).

THANKS

Hellcat those bravo brakes are now fitted along with new rear adjusters. Cheers for that ! Didn't feel anyhing special leaving the garage so I had a look and the only brake grease the garage applied just co-incidentally happened to be on the rear of the brake pad I could see through the hanger window (!), so I had to take them all apart again and properly wire brush and grease the sliding surfaces and they are much better.

I hope these work better than the old calipers. The pedals still a bit hard work, is it worth replacing the master cylinder too?

Cheers

J
