York Drag Way

Alright there,

Im from the puntosports forum and Ive read that you are trying to organise a fiat meet at the york drayway, Ive nicked some details off of here and posted them on there, upto now there are about six people interested, hopefully we'll get some more.

Do you know what you would have to take to be able to take part? Ive never been before but Ive heard you need to take your driving licence and a crash helmet? Is this correct

cheers

heh - not likely in a cinq, unless you've got the Novitec biturbo conversion!

Yeah all you will need to take is your car and your licence.

I have got 15s on now and thinking of taking my old 13s and give it a ago on both wheels and see what the difference is. would ii be ok just changing the front wheels and leaving the 15s oon the back all the time? (bit like a drag car lol)

Can't really make any excuses this time, its only 20 minutes from here. For those who've never been to Melbourne, a word of caution. The return road has steadily been detriorating for the last 50 years, if your car is low, be extremely careful. In fact the strip is not that flat either, but it should make for a fun day out. See you all there...........

A little advice - I tried far too hard at Santa Pod. Couldn't get grip off the line, just wheelspan all the way through first and cost myself a fair amount of time. You don't need to be violent and drop the clutch or do burnouts in normal cars, just practise minimum wheelspin starts - even if it means you don't get to full throttle straight away.

I'm 20 minutes the opposite direction Silver. But if anyone's going from the Hull area and wants to convoy down there, then I'm on for that. As fixit says, its all too easy to try too hard off the line, especially at York, where the surface is not anywhere close to Santa Pod standards. As for burnouts, if you're running normal road compound radials, the best thing to do is drive around the water and just do what the pro's used to call a dry hop. Just a quick spin of the wheels to clean off any gravel and muck, a quick chirp on the throttle and drop the clutch is enough.

oh my god.
I thought Santa Pod wasn't good, the track - although smooth - was super slippy, and the run-up stretch where everyone does the burnouts (Yep, I tried and nearly bust my gearbox) is pot holed.

The potholes aren't in the burnout box at York, they're all over the strip.............I could start remeniscing about how good it was when I was a kid and seeing some really serious machinery there. It was never the best track, but its really not suitable for anything vaguely fast these days.

The problem with Santa Pod is that when its fully prepped for a race its super sticky, but that amount of rubber on the surface without the VHT "glue" gets really shiney. When its sticky you nearly leave your shoes behind. Which reminds me of an amusing incident at York...............
