Technical Wrong darned mirror...

I thought that I'd replace the offside folding mirror on my Multi.

I got a new one, but it's wrong (cannot return it)

It is a power-fold & heated, but it only has 7 pins, the old one has 9.

Old mirror:

Just the same coloured wire arrangement, but it lacks the two lilac wires.


I'm thinking of making the connection anyway (cut & solder) because pins 3 - 9 seem the same.

What do the two lilac wires do? Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

7 wire mirrors are for cars without climate AFAIK. The extra two wires in the 9 wire version goes to the external temperature sensor. Has the new one you bought got the sensor 'bobble' on lower left corner of the housing?

Do Multis without A/C not have a temperature readout on the LCD display?

Multi's with an AUTOMATIC a/c have the meter i think, i haven't seen a Multi with a manual a/c with the meter yet.

That's the weird thing.

My car is an early 2001 version. I've got 9 wires, but I've not got auto climate control.

I shall proceed with my bodge on my day off on Wed...

I have manual A/C and an outside temp readout.

Could be for the mirror heater.

Was it the original mirror? Or are you talking about the loom leading to the mirror?

If it's not the original mirror (i.e. not the one it left the factory with), then it's possible someone replaced it with whatever came to hand.

If you haven't got climate control then you shouldn't need the 9-wire mirror. As a matter of interest, does the old one have the little bobble on?

I reckon the main loom would probably have all wires in place, even if the car hasn't got climate. I doubt they (Fiat) would want the hassle of managing different main looms.

It's not the original mirror. I've had the car from new. The original stopped folding within 12 months!
