Would you help a broken down motorist?

Helped 2 girls in barnham after they had run out of petrol in the 1st lane of the motorway, they just sat in the car there with hazards on and everyone drove past, pushed it off the road and drove to petrol station with my jerry can and brought it back, had no funnel so had to use a dr pepper bottle and a screwdriver as a funnel, it was her first day on road and first time on a motorway and she tried giving me money and i was like nahhhhh haha

Biker yes, usually run out of fuel or puncture...

Cars no, unless I knew the car and its owner, too many hi-jack scams around these days and what a tit you would look,,,,

Thats why I have Green Flag and others should take responsibility for themselves IMO.

X2, could not put it better myself. Having voted yes, that is because I have helped others in the past, nowadays, no way. Its just not worth it.

That said, last year I had a motorbike accident and I was certainly greatful for the assistance I got, I had a broken ankle and finger and my phone was broke. I had breakdown cover but thats pointless when you need to get to Hospital pronto. Bike was a writeoff.

Because of what I do these days I've stopped at many accidents to offer medical assistance, and having worked in the motor industry in the past I've stopped to help other motorists too mostly landrover owners or classic car owners I wouldn't stop for any old wreck,

I definitely 100% would not stop on a motor way even to offer medical attention unless police were already there, it's just too dangerous

No, because I know nothing about cars and never have any phone credit or battery so would really be of no use and yeah what if they are a psycho killer trying to set you up? I live in Australia, these things happen.

:hug: Thanks to all those who stop, as for the same reasons I am usually helpless. All I need is a working phone to call roadside assist.

The answer is yes, especially a fellow FIAT owner.

However, the problem these days is if its a women, then no. This is two fold, firstly they would be scared of me (big hairy biker type - me not the women)

In my ****ty Sportage (1997 model) once a big hairy truck driver did a U-ie to help verbally coach me to drive it out the mud. I hugged him cuz I was so grateful. Again no working phone and so many people just drove past when I was trying to push it out by myself.

I pulled over yesterday and put the hazzards on when helping a friend with their Corsa (Auto gearbox pooped itself) and had a random motorist stop not long after asking if we needed any help

yes, stopped in Trafford park on the dual carridge way L2,woman in car, broke down, queue of cars some trying to get past, pushed her to nearside with another driver, cleared road quick,

If i knew if they had towing hook fitted - today i would of had pulled a woman blocking the road out the way with ease

Got my tow rope and my towing eye, could have pulled her to safety and keep traffic moving

i wouldn't with a rope, if they don't know how to be towed they can go into your car. use a pole its a lot safer

HELPING A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
I was parked up in my motorhome in Cornwall in a large layby by goonhilly downs, i had just settled down in bed watching telly when i heard the death rattle of a camshaft pulling into the layby, so i got up and looked out the window as it was so dark couldn't tell what or who was out there so i put the porch light on and could see a Ferrari with the most gorgeous blond milf behind the wheel. I did not not give it a second thought about helping the damsel in distress so shot out to offer her assistance, she looked very upset she told me she had had an argument with her hubby and stormed off in his car not knowing it had a problem with the camshaft she tried to phone the aa but to no avail, neither of us could get a signal so she asked if she could stay the night1 well my flabber has never been so gasted "of course" i replied, LIKE I WAS GOING TO SAY NO, she reminded of a young Carol Vorderman but with long blonde hair and legs that went up to her armpits and the smell of Chanel filled me old camper. So i pulled out my finest asda sleeping bag and with no shame she started to get undressed right in front of me, dropping her red dress to the floor she was wearing black stockings with a lacy suspender belt and a lowcut bra she was spilling out of, just took my breath away, nobody would believe this if i told them i thought ,and so, elegantly, she slid into me sleeping bag, i am never gonna wash that bag i thought, quiveringly i got on the bed opposite and tried to get some sleep needless to say i couldn't, i could hear she was having trouble getting to sleep aswell, then she said she felt lonely and could she get in with me for a cuddle!!! well stap me vittles what could i say er err of course you can, she stood up and i could feel the heat of her body as she stood so close to me, she was still wearing her Janet Reger underwear what a sight, she said, "do you mind if i lie next to the wall" i replied "not at all" i said so i rolled over and as i did so fell off the bed and immediately.....

And legal, ropes are not any longer with servo assisted cars I've been told.

Nope, it's not my problem. I wouldn't get involved.
In this day and age,if I tried something to get them
going again and they got hurt or the car damaged
then they would be looking to me for compensation.
Join the RAC or something. I have, and don't rely on
any good samaritans passing by.

It's truly sad how worried people have become in the UK about stopping to help other people : be it because they are worried about getting robbed, conned etc, or worried about being accused of being / saying / doing something wrong.
I work in the Falkland Islands - and everyone here will stop if they see someone at the side of the road, even if you've only stopped to take photographs, just to make sure you are OK and don't need any help. It's a much simpler, and probably happier, state of mind down here than it is in the UK...
But, in answer to the OP, yes usually. I would make an assessment of the situation, but unless I felt particularly uncomfortable about it, I would stop to help. Maybe that's because I'm also a motorcyclist, and that's just "what you do"...
