Yes it does work. Many people have done so in their punto. I personally would just upgrade the whole unit but that's just me and i'm pedantic

In your engine bay you have an engine ecu seperate to the ECU on the left (if it is on mk2's)
Well, you wire it up to a cable on there. I have forgotten which colour. It will probably be in the guides. Ima have a gander.
Would be pretty cool to get one of those pod version rev meter and glue + fabricate it to your A-pillar, like where my tweets are. That would be pretty cool
