Wot have I done !!!!!!
OK, Eldest Daughter is learning to drive, automatic cars, (she like her Dad has Rheumatoid Arthritis, and a manual gearbox is a no no), so Dad (being cuddly and kind) has been out and purchased her 1st car........

Its a 2001 Fiat Punto Mk2 1.2 16v ELX Speedgear. (automatic). Nice looking car, well maintained and it drives well...........

So now we have 2 Fiats in the household, all she has to do is insure (haha), and tax it.........

All being well it will do her for a couple of years.......

No experience of the Speedgear, did ring up a Fiat expert and ask, and used his advice on the test drive..............fingers crossed for trouble free motoring.

Any advice from you long serving Punto owners gratefully received....

Cheers Qube O. :(:(

Well, It'll either work or it won't. best of luck with the insurance, my daughter has just put a MK2 Sporting on the road which involved a black box & £400 deposit. Cheapest quote came from the place which gives you a free Meerkat to put on Burntwood Moms.

Speedgear - you should get the box going up and down smoothly through all the gears

Make sure the Kickdown works (ie cruising in 3rd at 30mph, stamp the pedal to make sure the car realises you want to go)

With all that go - make sure its got stopping power
if its got ABS, which i bet it will, make sure you get the abs working too, to ensure its not switching off on activation

ziggy

As its a bit of an old girl it's well worth putting some pennies away for a gearbox fluid and filter change. A previous member homeward used to swear by this for keeping his auto running nice before problems develop

Ta for the advice.....gearbox oil and filter was changed end of last year, and car has done about 7000 since.
So I wonder when it should be done again ??
Perhaps once a year at service, or would that be to often ??

Cheers Qube O.

Thanks.....If it keeps the gearbox working well happen oil & filter every 2 years would be a cheaper option than a new box. So I can live with that.....I use a none Fiat, Fiat specialist....who is Fiat trained, so his prices are ok.
