Finished college today, just exam's to go. So far though, my only career prospects are to stay at brewers fayre, wow. Wish i'd hear about these god damned apprenticeships sooner rather than later.

i finished my last exam of my first year of uni on tuesday :D:D:D:D
time dont half fly when you're having fun.

get yer sen to uni, its the dogs :D

No chance,
I don't see the point of getting myself into £1000's of debt just to continue in something of which I have no real interest or care for.
Plus I'd never go to lectures as it would just be like a slacker college, which is no good for someone like me.

ever considered the possiblity of doing something else?
i did a computing degree with no formal computing qualificaitons at all.
before that i was into economics and biology, so it was a complete change.

plus you only get in loads of debt if you're irresponsible, and even if you do, its more than paid for within a couple of years of graduating, my salary is now double what it would be, and its getting better all the time.

pity the fool

No offence but i'd never do computing, As Level Computing put the nail in that coffin!
Too late for Uni anyway, but it just doesn't interest me, i'd rather be paid than pay to learn.

On a college justnow learning CAD. If finished I should be able to get a job at Rockstar North as a model designer. Did a university course and had my fingers burned by some of the lectures deliberatly trying to kick me out. If it weren't for my tutor finding a course for me at a college I don't know what I'd do.

Yeah I finished doing my a-levels last friday (all but three exams)

I've also more or less got the grades to go to uni already so roll on september :slayer:
Taking a Computer Games Programming course but i'm living at home to balance out the expense. It should work out ok cos I shall have very little living costs (bit of board for mom won't hurt i suppose) and although the course is 4 years long at £3000 a year i'm doing a sandwich year in year 3 so i'll earn enough that year to pay off the fees.

Probably won't work out like I planned but we'll see:yum:

That's understandable, but with the changing labour market it's getting harder and harder to get anywhere without formal qualifications. Particularly in vocational/ professional subjects.

There was a report recently stating that unskilled workers were going to become almost unemployable in the coming years. Much of the unskilled work such as manufacturing is being contracted out abroad to countries like China and India where the labour costs are cheaper, and a lot the unskilled work left in the UK is being taken up by immigrants who are prepared to work for less than most British people are willing to.

It's never too late for Uni. I went back into full time college education at 36 and am now finishing my first semester at University. 2.5 years to go and I'm fully qualified :woot: When I get qualified I'll be able to work just about anywhere in the world AND I'll get good pay (outside of the UK anyway). As I want to emigrate this is perfect for me, and without qualifiying for my new profession I'd be stuck in the UK with little hope of getting anything more than a job stacking shelves in Tescos.

Definitely look into doing an apprentiship, but don't be tempted to forgo any further training just so you can work at Brewers Fayre to get a meagre wage coming in at the end of each month. After a few years you'll come to a dead end and there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to progress in a career due to lack of qualifications/ training.

Get trained or your future career prospects might be reaching the dizzy heights of 'Chief Shelf Stacker' in Tescos or head waiter in Brewers Fayre  But if that's all you want then that's fine, but I suspect you'd like something more out of a career than that ;)

haha no cards for me! my debit card doesn't get used anyway!
would like to turbo the uno later on down the line when i have the money but would prefer to buy a mk1 punto or cinq! and as for the MT5 well i still owe my dad for that! doing that on the cheap :)

'On the cards' is an expression meaning 'to be done', not literally meaning paying on a debit/ credit card ;) :p

College project: Two stroke porting and gas flow theory plus the design of extracting expansion chamber exhaust systems.

Project mule - Honda MT5.

End result - College thesis completed and a pass, plus 65mph for you ;) :D

doing car mechanics course :p not bikes ;)
lol
not really that into bikes, well i am more so than i was! :)

Ok, do a project on force fed induction theory, cover both supercharging and turbocharging and use the Uno as the project mule. Do a before and after power run (get the college to sponsor the rolling road visit) and show how much power can be gained by fitting a turbocharged 1372cc engine instead of a N/A 999cc FIRE.

This is of course, purely educational. You will be discussing the power and torque of each engine and explaining the fundamentals of a normally aspirated and turbocharged internal combustion engine. Then you will be showing the relative power per litre for each engine proving the greater efficiency of forced induction. The fact that you will end up with a turbo conversion for your Uno is purely incidental.

Got to use your education to your advantage! :p
