hi all, havin trouble with my lights sidelights are ok but main beam on passenger side not working same with indicator on passengerside altho it works with hazards on. simular probs at the back...rear passenger cluster not lighting up for anything other than breaks......i'm ready to cry with it...all fuses and bulbs checked

ANY IDEAS?

It sounds like an earthing problem to me too! But is it just the passenger side thats not working? Have u checked the connectors on the indicators? They always rust and i've had to change mine 3 times. In the end i just cut them and reconnected them with bullet connectors instead.

Check the earth point under the front of the battery. Corrosion tends to set in here (probably something to do with the presence of the battery...) Remove all the spade connectors and use a small wire brush to clean up the 'tabs'. Tighten the spade connectors with pliers. Smear some grease over it all once you've put it back together.

As for the rear light... usually it's the connections to the galvanised-steel pins poking out the back of the light unit. Get some electrical contact cleaner (or failing that, something like brake cleaner) and spray the plug, unplug and plug a number of times.

If you're keen, remove the light unit and pull it apart. The centre bit with the bulb holders separates from the rest of the backing once you straighten one of the pins. Then you can wire-brush properly and even give some thought to soldering the bulb holders onto the conductors (use soldering flux such as 'Duzall') Before you put it back together, spray the backing with silver paint (makes the lights brighter).

I haven't seen a fault with the actual earthing point (pull boot floor up and look under rear lip) but that's always possible too.

So I agree with the others, it's an earthing problem, now do your homework and clean up those connections :)

Thanks,
-Alex
