wireless connection problem

i recently started using a wireless dongle with a BT home hub, instead of a cable with a talktalk hub.

but every time i start up the computer, there is a problem with the connection, which is fixed every time i "repair" the connection. it then works fine untill i switch off and on again.

i have no idea why it does this. any ideas please?

Probably a stale DHCP IP allocation from your BT Homehub. They seem to do this quite a bit I fixed one last weekend with a similar issue.

Are you using Vista?.

One solution would be to set a manual fixed IP to your wireless card / dongle.

If it still does it with a fixed IP address do what soapy says.

drivers are up to date.

im using XP pro.

not sure how to set up a fixed IP - we use fixed IP addresses for LAN gaming, but we have to set them back to automatic to get internet

Nah your BT Home hub fetches your internet IP from your ISP. It then has a built in DHCP server that allocates IP's to all your computers on your LAN. Do a repair so its all running and working.

Then go to start -> run and type cmd.

Then in the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" without quotes. This will show a list off all your network adapters and the Ip's they have allocated. Write down the Ip, DNS, gateway etc for your wireless dongle. Then set this manually. I assume you know how to do this if not ill tell you .

I personally would just reinstall windows But thats me doign it the easy way.

Back up all your porn and just use the recovery disk if u got 1.

thats a stupid way of doing it TBH

Try uninstalling and re-installing the dongle driver as I suggested before.

Its probally the quickest way. You obviously had this problem a while and it takes about 1-2 hours to install vista and all my drivers nd programs

sorted now - thanks soapy, must have been a bad driver installation

so obviously THIS was the quickest way!
